Anyone know much about electrics/fuse boxes?

This has been pissing me off for several hours.

Lights upstairs in my house all went, didn't think much of it and just thought I would go and buy a replacement fuse the next day.

I bought the correct fuse (5A BS 1361) and replaced it, but the lights don't work. I swapped the upstairs and downstairs fuses around and the upstairs now work, and the downstairs don't. Went out again a bought another fuse, same one, different brand......same thing.

Does anybody have any clue what is going on here? The one fuse that works that was already in the fuse box surely eliminates the face that their is some major wiring issue going on, or am I over looking something. Any help would be much appreciated.

sounds like you need to call someone in who knows what they are doing, or risk frying gear/pets/yourself etc.

Do the new fuses work at all?
By themselves, or only the old fuse?

I worked it out eventually.

For whatever reason the upstairs and downstairs lights are labelled the wrong way round, so the one fuse I thought was working the whole time, was actually the one that was broken.

God damn that pissed me off.
