Anyone recall the days everyone wasnt trying to shamelessly cash in on everything?

I actually dig your bass tones alot, so buying them wouldn't be that silly.
Plus you're one of the dudes who really have earned their respect in my book, so I'd gladly products/services from you.

Yes, even...

...Pod Farm presets.
Just because you're an awesome guy! :kickass:

And I gotta agree with The-Zeronaut:

If you are gonna sell something make sure its good
(or at the same level of the stuff that is already being sold by another people)

Or even impulses...i´ve heard a lot of stuff that isn't even on the same league of the impulses
released for free by Ryan (catharsis) and Mickrich (he is an awesome dude).

Well, if your product is junk, people won't buy it. I think that's pretty evident given the recent Joey Sturgis V30 impulse thread (everyone pretty much universally thought it was crapola) vs. his compressor (most people thought it was awesome). In that respect, things seem pretty saturated, but hopefully only the truly talented people will make a buck off it. The rest will lose money and time when nobody buys their mediocre products.

I think the truly awesome things are generally moderate to low cost and very helpful, and there are a lot of them. YouTube tutorials (Mr. Walker running through their entire album), the Systematic Mixing Guide (what did I pay, $10?), catharsis impulses, some of Ola's stuff, etc. I'd rather pay a bit for some great, well-organized and marketed advice/tutorials/starting point presets than pay nothing for absolute junk.

But I only joined this site last year, so I may be talking out my ass.

That's what I mean, Erkan gave away loads of free shit - tutorials, cymbal packs, drum samples. Ermin gave away the best two parts of that guide for free before selling the rest. Ryan gave away countless impulse responses and Olas given away tutorias, gear reviews, full song multitracks etc. Guys like Lasse have given away drum samples, kemper profiles and thousands of hints and tips.

And I know some of these guys have went on to sell stuff - but that's alright because they respected the value of community first before going on to develop a product further and I just feel like at the moment theres too many people waving their arms in the air feeling like this place is their chance to make a quick buck.

This is an appeal to casual altruism for communal benefit - lets see some more of that please.

This is the global condition. No one makes any money anymore due to piracy and market saturation, as a result we are bombarded with advertising. As for our community I'm more than happy to pay people for their products but I must say that in the past most of the time when a user went to the trouble to make say a sample library you could pretty much guarantee that it was going to be good but now... No offense to anyone but a lot of whats advertised now is pretty average. I personally recently purchased two product from forum members (I won't say who) that were pretty terrible and I doubt I'll ever use them.

It's pretty patethic with all these people trying to sell pod farm presets. Most of the ones are nothing special, tones that you could dial in, in about 2 minutes. It's a different story if u're selling something that u've put a lot of work to, but the preset market is just people trying to get easy money imo.

I know it looks lame to sell POD Farm presets, but I'm actually selling a crafted sound that took me a while to get the ability to dial in. I've been giving them away for free for years, so a lot of people have them already.

Hey Erik, I've got Podfarm v1.1. Do you know if your bass presets will work with that version?

I think it's okay because most of the stuff I've bought I felt was worth it. Sometimes I've been disappointed but it's been rare. And some of the little guys put out big time stuff. I really don't see the issue because if it's crap engineers of all people should be able to figure that out from the demos.

Edit: Just to be clear I'm talking about drum samples, not presets. Presets are something I would never buy but hey if that's what floats some people's boat then I still don't really have an issue with it.

As long as pod farm presets aren't 90% Gate>Screamer>Head>Cab..
Like #1 is the same as #2, but the mids are on 7 instead of 6.
Podfarm cost money and has a lot of different stuff in it.... I've seen free amp sim presets for sale.
Like... There's 5 knobs on that bitch. A preset bundle of an amp sim with 5-6 knobs isn't gonna have too much variety.
brb making LePou and X50 presets $50 HMU srs, not srs. jk.

It's hilarious how accurate this picture with that quote is...

I don't think you're wrong or overreacting or are overly rose-tinted, Owen. I've noticed the same thing over the last 2-3 years and it's endlessly frustrating. I get that people need to eat but what happened to actually recording people as an audio engineer?

AHEM,

It was actually adult friend finder.
Awkward.

Not to smear anyone but i feel that Chango Studios has some stuff that he sells that is pretty useless. I bought his Cinematic FX Pack for 30$ and there's probably around 4 out of 100 samples that I've used. Some of them is really bad and it's impossible to udnerstand why he made them. He also have around 10 Pod Farm presets that he sells :S

The thing is, we fancy ourselves engineers. If you buy some Chango FX pack for $30 does that say something about the seller or you? I'd say it says something about both of you. Chango it reflects on him for selling products that are pretty much useless for good money just because he can, and it reflects on the buyer because they were ignorant enough to be duped into buying it. Any engineer with a decent head on their shoulders should be able to see that that particular pack isn't worth the dog shit on the bottom of my shoe(Along with most of Chango and Sturgis offerings).

But what about the good guys? The guys that sell good stuff at reasonable prices. Guys like the Nashville guy(sorry forgot name), Jordon, Lasse, Chares J, Seraph, Double Impact Drums and The Metal Factory among others I must be forgetting. Those are high quality and unique products IMO at fair prices. Do we really need to lump in those guys with the guys who sell garbage product just cuz they have a reputation in the "scene"?

I don't think the issue is one of quality of the products but rather a question of this forum's identity shifting from a place where you learn and share into one where you come to buy or sell. Personally, I already visit gearslutz so I really don't have a need or want for the low rent version. There is still a lot of good stuff here but things are definitely moving in the direction of non-stop self promotion.

If there is a lesson to be had from all of the samples/patches made in bedroom studios it's that it fundamentally isn't that difficult to make something usable if you're experienced enough to make a good mix.

It's more to do with how often some of them market. There are people in the list you have that post or used to post SUPER frequently about their products, and I'm seeing three names in particular on that list where I bought the product after seeing them spam so hard on here/facebook but then ended up hating the samples enough to delete them from my machine entirely.

There's a pretty obvious difference between guys like Lasse who have a link in their sig and post things like "here's a new session I'm working on, also there are new drum samples" and the guys who post "SHORT TIME ONLY 10 DRUMS FOR 5 BUCKS" type sales every other week.

Totally...kinda hard to find a nice middle ground though, as I also don't want to miss out just because I missed the post haha
But I guess you'd come across the good stuff often enough around here anyway.
That's why endless spamming is so annoying.

I can see your point man, spam sucks. I don't have these guys on facebook so maybe that's where I miss the issue. But I've bought products from all those guys I listed except for Lasse(who I really, REALLY need to) and been happy with all of them due to the fact that they all have something unique to offer. So to each his own I guess.

The last thing I'll say is it seems like most of the dudes I listed are pretty class, and if you emailed them right after buying and being unsatisfied I am sure you could have gotten a refund if you promised to delete the samples.

Edit: Last thing for real, Yes all for sale should be in the merch section and perhaps the rules should be stricter. First time thread deleted and warning on account, second time ban hammer. That I can get behind.
