I know most guys here favor V30 cabs for recording, but from a guitarists side of things I ALWAYS hear about how much better then 5150's sound through matching cabs then through other speakers... Has anyone used a 5150 with a matching cab in a recording session and how did it translate vs. a V30 loaded cab? I have an opportunity to score a dead mint 5150 cab for $300 which is why I ask!

I have a bottom one...bought if for $150. Too cheap to pass up .....but

couldn't get it to sound right recording wise, Andy told me to swap in some v30's.....so I put two of them in an 'X' pattern. Sounds great now. Can't really tell a difference Live, but a huge difference under a mic.

I have the slant version of this cab. This is the 2nd 5150 cab I've had. I'm running this one with my 6505+, and it has 2 sheffields and 2 eminence patriot's texas heat. I really like how the head sounds better with this cab. I had a Marshall 1960 w/ Celestions G12T75 and I sold it to get this cab. You can't go wrong, and for the price, it's a good sturdy cab, with lot's of bottom end.

tried it, didnt like it, got 1960av.
i heard the speakers were meant to be greenback ripoff?
xxx cabs sound pretty good tho.
these opinions are only based on live playing, havent recorded with peavey cab.
Andy doesnt like em, so neither do i :)
