Anyone want a crack at mixing this for me?

I mainly did this for Slate, but if anyone wants a crack at mixing this, here's a major group mixdown for download of my last Superior 2.0 song I posted. There's a guitar group, bass group, all overheads group, kick unprocessed, snare unprocessed, and the kick and snare processed just like the mix. I think it would be interesting to see what some other people can do. I'm out of ideas!

I forgot to put the processed snare all by itself. Here it is. I'm really just looking for a better kick sound, as I really like the existing snare the way it is.

Here's the mix I did using these stems.

Here's a completely different mix of the song.

Are you kidding? With the mixes you consistently get Splat, I'd be afraid of defiling your song! Although, I won't pass up the chance to give it a try. :)

Grrr...."please try again in 66 minutes"

Yeah go for it! This isn't like a traditional 'mix my song' though because everything's already EQ'd and compressed and each file was exported at mixed volume. Feel free to tweak those parameters too if you want, but I want to hear some great kick sounds most.

Finally...downloading. :) I'll see if I have time tonight to play around. It's been kind of hectic lately. If nothing else, I'm anxious to hear these tracks. :) Thanks Spat!

Edit: Splat, the stem mix on esnips seems to be a broken link (at least for me).

Here's my first attempt... I replaced the kick with another sample. It's a mix of the "fusion" and "monster" kick drum samples from an alesis d4 (if i remember correctly) and this is what Andy Sneap used in Nevermore's DHIADW (according to andy himself).
I also used the unprocessed snare and did some processing of my own ;)

Not sure what type of kick you have in mind though, I based this on your other clips.

Cool! I'll take a listen in a bit.

Alrighty, here's my version: http://www.esnips.com/doc/d868e602-7256-40f9-b6eb-870fdb11480e/splatsong-mooniemix6

First off, let me say that your music kicks arse and is a really welcome break from the stuff I'm used to mixing.

Second off, let me apologize for the clipping during the tom parts. I really couldn't get this one as loud as I wanted, and I have a feeling that's due to the bass eating all the headroom, and me generally being too scared to cut it up too much :)

Third, I hope I didn't butcher your song too much. I have a feeling the drums aren't triggering in all the right places & the guitars I'm still not 100% with, but I'd need a vocal track and some leads to really be able to tell how much more hollowing out they need.

Fourth, thanks a heap for giving us your tracks to play around with!

This is cool, can you post the unprocessed guitars so I can put my own revalver patch on them ;)

BTW, do you have a "processed" kick as well? I mean slate triggered.

Ok here's a quick mix I did. Since everyone was going for the dry cracky snare I decided to get sassy and go for a deep and fatter snare with a nice chunk of room sound. If I have time later I can do a mix with a new dry cracky snare. Snares used are SlateCustomSnare (coming in 2.5) and Snare15. I should have asked for toms but since I didn't have them I didn't worry about them... Kick I stacked my two metal kicks, KICK5 and KICK15. I went a bit easier on the bass guitar lows since the bass was heavily limited... I also knocked out a tiny bit of 80Hz on the bass to let the kick come through. Guitars I just hipassed. I dig the kick sound, sounds metal to me.

first the guitar up mix:

now the drum up mix:

ok here is the cracky drier one... uses snares ToneDef and GreenSnare... kicks are same.. Kick 15 and 5:

same snares, with a chestier kick made of ToneDef and Dream Kicks:

Hey Steven,

I'm pretty sure the mix I did has a fairly roomy snare happening...

I just have to say again how much your samples kick ass. I felt they worked quite well on this track, and they've helped me out with countless other mixes too...

ahhh must have missed that Ermin... yeah your snare sounds great... thanks for the kind words.. one thing that I forgot to say is how impressed I am with that Revalver thingy. Gotta try it soon.

Hehe, I don't think he used revalver on this one, I think splat uses Gearbox.

Yeah Splat gets some wicked tones with the gearbox... really goes against everything I've ever experienced with Line 6, but IMO his tones have blown Revalver out its own arse. Revalver's biggest downfall is that the crux of the tone is down in the low-mids, which tend to get fairly cut up in a clear mix. The higher you go, the more brittle the frequency content seems to be.

You're welcome to your opinion, but I totally disagree. The key to Splat's guitar tone is not Gearbox, it's the curve EQs he uses. And I totally disagree with your comments concerning ReValver. If you don't like the sound of the low-mids in your tone, try searching for a different impulse that sounds better to your ears.

Listen to the authenticity of these... http://www.matt-steele.com/software.htm & no curve EQ used! ;)

I agree that revalver mkIII it's really good and I think better than pod(and gearbox) but I don't think playing over the original recording(like the guy in the link you posted) helps to draw any conclusions.
Curve EQ it's basically an EQ as far as I know, no magic plugin that makes gearbox sound amazing. The reason splat's tones sound good in my opinion has to do with his playing, his mixing ability and also the style of music he plays which go well with pod's tones....also the fact that his music kicks ass certainly helps ;).
In fact I remember a while back where splat posted some mixes using revalver mkIII and they sounded just as good if not better than gearbox.
