yes they do slay and the new album kills! angela's vocals have improved quite a bit and the guitar work and leads do not disappoint either. the only down side I could think of is the lack of some fast songs like dead bury their dead on the wages album.
im seeing them next saturday:headbang:

Same here! I went to Swedish metal and downloaded an mp3 (safely :) ) and I agree, she has a great voice. Another great female voice in the black metal area is Vibeke Stene of Tristania. I think she has THEE most incredible voice ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this is the worst AE album to date. not real fast. full of mid paced stuff w/ an occasional fast break in the song. not too many fast ones from start to finish, like say beast of man. the added keyboards didnt help at all. sorry dirt, but I think those are 2 some of the worst songs on the disc. dehumanization is much better. I wont be buying or burning this disc.

this year has been full of dissappointing releases. you guys need to pick up the new darkest hour disc. that thing is fast all the way through and doesnt dissapoint. :headbang:

I don't need an album to be fast from start to finish, I need breaks, melodic changes, catchy riffs with grooves, leads with feeling & emotion, a frontman who controls the pace, solid drumming that not all the same, & good sounding production.............and A O R.........has it all, this is a great disc, I enjoy it, and Arch Enemy has not changed its main formula, like other bands from this genre..........I'll give them the respect they deserve!

I love that CD too. If you like Darkest Hours new CD you might like Soulreaper's "Life Erazer" and Beyond The Sixth Seal's "Earth And Sphere". They're all American DM bands that play the sound well.

DAMN STRAIGHT!!! AND THANKS AGAIN DE!!!!
I'M HOOKED UP TO SEE THEM SEPT 9TH IN HOLLYWOOD..WITH HATE ETERNAL!!!!!!

I've been an Arch Enemy fan since the first album, and can honestly say that I prefer Angela over the original vocalist Johan any day. Not that he was bad, but she's much better and reminds me of Jeff Walker from Carcass which is definitely not a bad thing. Anyway I just got this album in the mail on Friday and I think it's fantastic! It will easily be in my top five (if not top three) at the end of the year. I have no problem with anyone not liking the album either, what I do have a problem with is some jackasses I've seen in other forums calling it nu-metal  I hear no rapping, two note riffs, and there are numerous GUITAR SOLOS all over the place. It gets so irritating when people pull out the nu-metal card just because they don't like something! Anyway back to the point, Anthems Of Rebellion rocks! :headbang:

hey steiner - I thought soulreaper was the band formed out of the ashes of dissection by the drummer and other guitarist?

Ya, that's right. Johan Norman and Tobias Kellgren (also of Satanized, Decameron, and Dissection) are in Soul Reaper. I think the band's sound is way more death than black metal though, despite how the critics have labeled them. I'm not sure if they started the band or not. Their first album, "Written In Blood", never really did it for me. The new album is a lot better on a lot of levels though. You can hear a lot of Hanneman/King influences on the guitarwork - especially on the track "Static Darkness". The opening riff of that song has that haunting type "Reign In Blood" feel to it. Some of the drumwork also sounds like it could be from "Beneath The Remains/Schiztophrania" era Sepultura. I think you'll dig this album if you like Darkest Hour.

~I don't know that you can compare Darkest Hour to Arch Enemy anymore. How many more bands will milk the Slaughter of the Soul/Jester Race sound until it dries out? I'll admit that I think Johan Liiva was a MUCH better fit for Arch Enemy, but Darkest Hour, (talented as they are) aren't doing anything unique.

~Still am I the only one who thinks that the bonus dvd disc for this album is kind of... pointless?

DE, thanks for everything. You rock! AOR rips hard. It's hard to believe Angela's range. Killer! The kicks KICK SOME SERIOUS ARSE! I have to agree with you, change is nice. Specially when you are with someone special. :) Can't thank you enough. :worship:

Akumojo Dracula X3 -
darkest hour is a thrash band, like the haunted. not an in flames clone. Their new album is amazing and one of the best this year. It might not be unique, but its killer shit. Fuck, when Forbidden came out after metallica, exodus, testament and the bunch, people didnt put them down and say its been before. why? because it was killer shit. who cares if its not new. If its good, its good.

I've thought about this a lot..because I find myself getting really bored with that particular genre..and here's what I came up with. Back in the thrash heyday the music was similar, but the vocals were all different. Everyone had their own style on the voice end of things..therefore you could tell them apart and it kept things more interesting. The death metal vox are all so similar that sometimes it's hard to tell the bands apart...or want to listen pick up more bands cds. I'm not knocking the melodic death metal..just offering my take on why people get burned out on it.
