Are the newer Solefald albums really any good?

Because the first two were OK, but Pills Against the Ageless Ills blew.

Just curious if I should check out this band again.

The double album Fire&Death thing is pretty useless, though I haven't heard part 2 :p

I do not agree about "Pills..." being all that awful, in fact it was rather an improvement from the going-nowhere avant-bullshit "Neonism". "The Linear Scaffold" and the "Jernlov" demo are ace, and "In Harmonia Universali" owns some, but a few songs drag the overall impression down bit. I can't see how Solefald would be anywhere up your alley J., so why even bother? :)

I bought both of the new albums "Red for Fire" and "Black for Death", and I will admit that either of these albums would probably be a difficult starting point for new listeners, but I think existing fans will find them enjoyable. I find Lazarre's vocals are awesome and his drumming progresses with every new album (note, he's a keyboardist and a vocalist before he's a drummer).

"Pills" is probably my favourite album of theirs, overall. I can listen to it all the way through and enjoy it, where much of the rest of the catalogue is better in smaller doses of favourite tracks.

I'm a fan! :p

In Harmonia Universali is very good, although I rarely listen to it. I don't think J would like it at all.

That said, J might appreciate Red for Fire, particularly for songs like "Sun I Call", "White Frost Queen", and "Crater of the Valkyries".

EDIT: The last track is several minutes of ocean waves and noisy seagulls -- you know, something Nate would headbang too. :loco:

I like In Harmonia Universali a lot. I didn't when I first bought it, probably over a year ago, but after I shelved it for awhile I brought it back out and it grew on me. I need to listen to it more still. Lazare's vocals are fantastic, one of my favorites. Very airy sound.
