I think you were the only one confused, man. An algorithm is an algorithm... it has nothing to do with impulse responses. Look up the definitions of the words you're using.

algorithm just implies a problem-solving procedure... solving a rubic's cube is an algorithm. (although not computational, it derives from solving problems in a finite number of steps).
