I've read great comments about this band and I'm planning to buy their albums.
I'd like your opinion , what you guys think about ARK ?

thanx !
;)

Agreed...how a band largely composed of Yngwie sidemen (not taking away from their individual talents, the guitarist and drummer are awesome) could have produced something this good is a feat in itself. This album has one quality that I wish were true of all prog albums: every song sounds different.

Ark is good. Their singer is fucking amazing. I got to know them coz their singer sang for Beyond Twilight and I was AWED by the fucking awesome singing he did! Esp. in that song "Perfect Dark". Some of the greatest most talented vocal singing I've heard since Bruce Dickinson!

I don't really like their album, it's completely unoriginal though I have to admit it's well made. But the songs are really nothing special, there's nothing to explore and to discover in that music.

They're one of my newfound faves!
I pretty much dislike everything that has a neo-prog touch, but Ark has something the other bands don't have, which is one of the best vocalists I've ever heard. And I must admit, without Landes vocals I guess it wouldn't affect me at all. He's like a cross of all the greats : Coverdale, Dio, Cornell, and Staley. Musicwise, much of it is typical 80´s metal or progressive metal, but they have a darker (Scandinavian?) touch which I like. Some songs has rather diverse influences, like you rarely see in their genre...Björk, Nicolai Dunger or even Latin music.

He used to be with Company of snakes which is a Whitesnake kinda tribute band featuring Micky Moody and Bernie Marsden etc (Old Whitesnake members). I tell ya, at times you can't tell the difference from Lande and Mr. Coverdale himself.

Gonna see Jorn live soon. Together with Entombed and Ragnarok.
Very good band, indeed.

Thank you for inspiring me to dig up my Burn The Sun album again

Ark is amazing. I highly recommend you check out their 2001 release Burn The Sun. Jorn Lande in my opinion is one of the best vocalists in the business. The album features bass god Randy Coven (formerly of CPR with Al Pitrelli and Vito Bratta on guitars) and John Macaluso on drums (formerly of Yngwie Malmsteen). The ex-Conception guitarist handles the guitar work.

If you like BTS you might want to check out their debut album as well but let me warn you their debut is a very mellow disc and I don't like it much.

If any of you are Ark fans and unfamiliar with Beyond Twilight then you should definitely check them out as well. BT is Jorn Lande's side project with Danish and Swedish musicians. Their album The Devil's Hall of Fame feautures Lande's most aggressive vocals to date. For more info:

Jorn Lande has also two solo albums. He is a very versatile singer.

Don Corleone:

Ark is from Norway. At least the vocalist and guitarist are. Randy Coven is American.

They play prog metal. Nothing like Queensryche or Dream Theater though. Lande at times sounds like David Coverdale, and he does some 80-ish vocals. The music is very progressive, yet not in the sense that is very technical. It's original stuff.

Highly recommended.

I've just bought their 2 abums !
Their music is totally amazing and what a voice !!! : rock:

But, there's someting strange about the first album,
it's seems that the volume ( or the mix ) of the first 3 songs is higher than the others (especially for the guitars).
Is it me or is it normal ?
Do I get a bad copy of the CD ?

thanx

I am completely shocked that Mike likes them so much, heheh to me there are just another power prog band with yet another Yngwie wanna be guitar player, I do agree with Mike on one thing, he is a great vocalist, i saw him with Yngwie, on the Bore to end all Bores tour hehe :p
