Really enjoyed it!
I don't think it sound really boxy, it's for sure quite mid-heay but it suits the old school melodeath vibe in my opinion...
Nice track, except for the breakdown that sounds a little out of context, but it's only a matter of tastes!
By the way, raws would indeed be cool!

As for the mix, try using a different impulse for the rhythm guitars. Something with a wider frequency responce would be great.
