as far as zombie movies go...

there were moments of 'Tsui Hark's Vampire Hunter' that I enjoyed, but the biggest let down was the master vampire. immobile and expressionless and not at all scary or intimidating. I do like their use of CGI to weird out the backgrounds tho, as Nick noted. That was cool.
I need to rent Mr. Vampire again. heck, I should just buy it.

i haven't actually seen any of the sequels. i think they say 2 is good, but after that a drop-off in quality. the same with any other series, i guess.

if netflix has them, i'm not opposed to watching all of them and letting you know.

on friday night i purchased KUNG-FU ZOMBIE from best buy, which has some good taoist magic/zombie stuff going. generally the movie was in the 'unwatchable' tier of late 70's HK, but i enjoyed it.

ENCOUNTERS OF THE SPOOKY KIND has some great moments with sammo hung and a hopper. it doesn't feature the vampire too heavily, and it could have been edited better, but i recommend it.

i think the essential ingredient to these films is a charismatic and shady human ant/protagonist to go along with the hopper. lam ching ying / MR VAMPIRE and whoever the taoist wizard in KUNG-FU VAMPIRE was, steal the show, from the vampire AND the younger hero(s).

VHUNTERS didn't have that person, in my opinion.

also, apologies to Greg for this hijacking.
