Hey everyone

Just wondering if anyone knows how to get the lead synth tone from "when Everyday's the Weekend"

I've gotten kinda close to it. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas.

gonna go out on a limb and say a simple trance pad with a low pass filter sweep.

it could either be an arpeggio or keyed in notes but as far as tone is concerned, it doesn't seem like anything too complicated.

vanguard
nexus
omnisphere

any subtractive synthesizer, really.

im using nexus but most of the patches there sound like it but just don't sound convincing enough.

As for Vanguard, im just gonna be honest and say Im not that great at replicating synth tones..=/

Is there anyway you would could help me out in recreating the tone?

:guh:

why would you want to "replicate" a sound that has already been used (for synth, that is)?

hmff! ...like i said, it's not all that complicated. i made this in 20 seconds (literally).

you need to realize that there are also a few other synth elements (portamento "ramp" or "rise" synth etc.) in the background as well as electronic drums where the kick is sidechained to individual synth parts. the filter is different too... which means the original one probably has a filter on the synth as well as the "rise" or sweep filter. it's all additive/subtractive, just take some time and play around with it. i know mine isn't identical but if i spent a few hours on it (like i'm sure joey did) it would be perfect however since i am just replicating a synth that has already been used, it is utterly useless.

if you do own nexus i would suggest you play with it a bit.

Im sorry if im being a bother but I don't know much when it comes to techno, im actually sort of new to it. There are also many terms in that area that I really dont know what they mean either. Again, Im really sorry to be such a bother but it would be a huge help if you can maybe post a picture of how you got that tone.

well... if you already own nexus, you will find that vanguard is a "scaled down" version of nexus.

with regards to "settings" ...just use the "german trumpet 3" in the *dance leads library folder.

then apply a low pass filter at about 850hz with a high quality (Q) then automate a sweep all the way up to 20khz (or whatever sounds best to you).

this is a screenshot of the preset i used but it was completely untouched:

side note: "terms" used for techno or electronic music production are universal to every form of music production. so in that case it would behoove you to bone-up on your audio engineering terms since you must first know what the "ball" looks like in order to "be the ball".

Ah rad, thx man! I never knew it was a scaled down version of Vanguard! But im happy with it.....for now!

no... vanguard is a simpler version of nexus. nexus is the scaled UP version of vanguard (much bigger).

but vanguard is only a subtractive synthesizer whereas nexus uses a sampling engine while still employing the basic (refx) synth architecture.

You said, you dont see a point in trying to replicate a synth tone, well I don't do this professionally, It's more of a hobby to me, so I usually do a lot of covers, which is why I was trying to get that same tone. Anyways here's what I have...Sounds really bad if you ask me :/ Can someone rip this to pieces and give me any tips on how to make it better?

EDIT: Is it just me or does something really sound off note in this? Am I missing an instrument?

haha Im sure you found like a billion things wrong with it but you probably just decided to make both of our lives easier and just say "Sounds pretty good" :)

The screamy synth sounds towards the back of the mix are a bad note choice. Try some sidechain compression on the main chord progression part, get that Kick hitting way harder.

But it sounds really unispired anyway, are you using vengeance samples?

thanks for the reply but im not so sure which "Screamy synth" your talking about. Are you talking about the main Lead? or are you talking about that siren kind of sound?

Im also not sure which main chord progression part your talking about. Are you talking about the bass synth?

Nope, no vengeance samples, Im using "electronic ezx" from Toontrack.

I went through a ton of patches in nexus, and I went through all of them in Vanguard but nothing...None of them sound like it to me. I tried playing around with the settings on some of them but it still doesn't sound perfect.

I really wonder what he used on it..

P.S where's Joey and Andy, I haven't seen them around here in a while..:/
