Astral Projection...

Lucid dreaming is awesome. I have them occasionally, but I never realize I have until I wake up. Usually it is things like hover-jumping down a sidewalk for as long as I want, or jumping over trees and buildings with zero effort. Sometimes I am riding my BMX bike and effortlessly pulling off tricks that even pros rarely land and sometimes I just fly around with my arms for fun because I can. In the dreams, this all seems extraordinary to me, but I never actually realize I am dreaming and have the ability to take full control until I wake up and lose the dream.

Regardless, they are great :)

You consider lucid dreaming to be "mysticism and other BS" too?

No, I think she was referring to the astral projection.

Have any of you lately just stopped giving a shit? Not the sort of no shit given like I'm-gonna-bury-my-head-in-the-sand, but rather a more realist/jaded/cynical approach?

For example, I'm no longer shocked or appalled or angry over injustices anymore. That's not to say I agree with or condone them, it's just a more, "what did you expect?" mentality I have now. Human beings are capable of both great and evil things, but we tend to lean towards the evil more often than the great. Nothing surprises me anymore and nothing really upset me anymore. There are people crying on Youtube over this Syria conflict, and I just don't give a shit. I don't give a shit if Assad wins, I don't give a shit if Al Qaeda wins, I don't give a shit if the American-led coalition wins. It's not a "I don't care as long as it doesn't affect me" kind of thing, as I'm not fucking retarded and I do realize that it will affect me in some way, big or small.

The president? Don't give a shit. The next president? Don't give a shit. The economy? Don't give a shit. Berlusconi? Don't give a shit. The child rapist who just hung himself in prison? Glad he's dead, but don't give a shit. NSA spying? Don't give a shit. Job market? Don't give a shit. Banks getting off scott-free for tanking the entire economy? Don't give a shit. Gay marriage? I support it, but don't give a shit. Corrupt politicians? Don't give a shit. Bands getting back together? Don't give a shit.

I've just come to the conclusion lately that people will never change...we will never change. It's not going to get better, and any attempts to make it better will be futile. The only thing you can do is do the right thing whenever it's called for and be a good person. Set an example for others but don't fool yourself into thinking they'll actually act on it.

Have a nice day! :loco:

I think you are realizing that shit is just going to happen. We can try to stop it, try to embrace it and encourage it, but no matter what, other things will happen as well.

I see the world as functioning the way it needs to function. A lot of that involves bad shit. It's the way it is. World peace is a pipe dream. Whatever. Like you said, just try and be a good person and be happy. But it is difficult sometimes.

We will all die. Eventually none of us, our entire species, will be here and nothing good or bad will have mattered in the end. Enjoy what you have now :)

I think so too, but I just wanted to make sure.

I think the whole thing with astral projection is the same as what happens during sleep paralysis: when you have sleep paralysis, you see without eyes - your eyes are closed, but you can still see... at least, you think you do. What actually happens is your brain building a coherent image of your surroundings as it remembers them. I think 'astral projection' is pretty much the same thing.

Wait, but aren't lucid dreams by definition dreams where you realize you're dreaming? Lucid dreaming isn't the same as having free will in your dream, it's actively realizing, "holy shit I'm dreaming, time to do awesome stuff in this dream!" Or did you mean something else?

I mean that in those dreams I realize I have powers that aren't natural that I can control as I wish, and they are astounding to me, but I never actually realize I am dreaming until I wake up. It just feels like mind-blowing reality.

Maybe that isn't technically lucid dreaming, but possibly the start of it?

I don't know about all this. But Alex Grey's art is pretty descriptive in regards to it, check it out.

I think you're right. It's nice to know someone understands, hehe. Some people see it as being somewhat nihilistic, but I just don't see it that way. It's not an angry thing, it's more of a resignation and empowerment to take control of one's own life and make the best out of it.

I've tried to do the lucid dream thing, but it doesn't work for me. As soon as I realize fully that I'm dreaming, I wake up. I've tried meditation, too, but that was also a bust.

For me it's all about acceptance. I've realized that I expect too much from people, and I've stopped doing so. It's not that I don't care about what happens in the world or I'm uninterested, but it's a different frame of mind that I have now in order to digest it all.

For instance, this whole Syria thing...what's going to happen is if the US goes in, the world's gonna get pissed. If the US stays out, the world is gonna get pissed because they're hypocrites who only care about helping others as long as they don't have to; namely, Europe. Therefore, the US should just let people suffer and die. "But what about the children?!?!?" they say. What about the children? What makes a child's life any more valuable than an adult's? It's not our problem. If it becomes our problem, then we should intervene. Until then, let people suffer and die. Humans have been suffering and dying for thousands of years; 'murica can't stop that no matter how many times it tries to intervene. Just let them die.

This is what I mean by resigning oneself to reality. It doesn't mean that it's right or wrong; so many people get hung up on right or wrong, good or bad, etc...it just IS. There's no reason to be outraged over anything anymore because all it is is a bunch of people pointing fingers and telling everyone else what to do without having to do it themselves. People are the problem, yet we're all people, so what can you do? Like Kevin said, the universe will keep going and there's really nothing we can do about it. Until people are ready to sacrifice everything dear to them to make a change, nothing will change. People are guided by so-called civility, but what good is civility if all it gets you is a pat on the back? What's so bad about being uncivil? The only real repercussion from it is the law, and if the repercussion isn't worth the "uncivilized" action you want to take, then you have to weigh that for yourself. Is it more important to stay out of jail, or is jail worth revenge? Being civilized is the most farcical concept in the history of man. That said, living in a so-called civilized society, repercussions are out of your hands; you don't decide what your punishment is for taking action. Therefore, you must weigh which is more important to you. At this point in my life, since I cannot change what is wrong with the world, ambivalence is my only choice. The world will keep turning, regardless.

In Italy they say, "Non puoi avere la bottiglia piena e anche la moglie ubriaca." Translated it means: "You can't have the full bottle and the drunk wife."

We're not civilized because it's the right thing to do; we're civilized because we're afraid of the repercussions that will come back to us if we're not. Once you start thinking in this way, everything will become clear and everything will be put into perspective. You will start thinking in terms of what is correct and what isn't correct, not farcical concepts such as right and wrong or fairness. Most people calling for destruction are people who have never had to destroy anything. Most people who are calling for salvation are people who have never been responsible for saving anything. In both cases they're hypocrites and in both cases they're cowards hiding behind rhetoric.

The only option left for us is to not be hypocrites.

For the lucid dreaming adventurers among us - I did some recent experimentation with Galantamine/Choline and had my first WILD and let me tell you....it was quite an experience. Lots of psychedelic qualities and no side-effects or major problems. Please just make sure that you educate yourself when planning for these kinds of voyages:
