Attn: people in bands

well, i joined my band because around the end of september this year a freshman comes up to me and goes "hey bro, do you uh, play an instrument?"
and now i'm the bassist in Angel Wrath. he only asked me because i have long-ish hair.

and for you, id say try everything you've listed already. im trying to form another band right now too, and its pretty much impossible to find a singer, so do everything you can to find one

Do you have any friends that play music?

You should also be open to the idea of joining a band that is need of your instrument. Even if it's not the exact music you want to play, it'll get you into clubs and playing shows and ultimately making connections and meeting other musicians.

I answered an ad in a local magazine here we have called FREETIME. It has a musicians page on it.

It's way easier joining an already established band then starting your own. Starting your own will take way much more time, just depends on how soon you want to be out giggin.

Thanks for all the tips guys.

Luckily I can do growl vocals already, so I'm only worried about finding someone with decent clean vocals.

I'm thinking about buying a bass as well so that I can dual my instruments if I need to. I actually see a lot more need for bassists around here for some reason.

And I'll try your suggestion right now will, thanks.

That statement is a double-edged sword imo. Yeah, making a band with close friends is fun, but it could cause rifts in your friendship over creative disagreements. On the other hand, starting a band with people you don't know at all, or people you don't really know, could help you become really close friends. It's all about what the people you're forming the band with are like.

Hmmm, I've never had that problem because everyone I've started a band with, I've known for a while already. Ads would probably work though. Classifieds too (I think someone above said Music Stores may have them).

Indeed. Sometimes good friends become bitter enemies after they've been in a band together. You could compare it with friends becoming lovers, I guess.
