Ali, what's the book about? Quick synopsis mate? 'preciate it.

Heh, well I was being a little tongue in cheek just because it's got such a huge cult following and NAD would get a kick out of it. So would Erik perhaps. Most people I know regard this as one of their favoUrite books.

Here's an excerpt from Amazon which sums it up at a high level:

Luke Rhinehart, the author (in fact, the real author's pseudonym) and narrator of the book, is the ultimate unreliable narrator. Luke's actions are largely dictated by chance. He writes down alternative actions and then tosses dice to determine which action to take. The result, he claims, is freedom to live different sides of his personality.

This is like the pre-cursor to both "American Psycho" and "Fight Club". It was written in the 70's, but I think they're coming around to making a movie (which will probably suck, but oh well).

Great, great book.

if nothing else

i'll read it because AT THE FUCKING GATES quoted it! on slaughter... but still

'Men must attempt to develop
in themselves and their children
liberation from the sense of self
...men must be free from
boundaries, patterns and
consistencies in order to be free
to think, feel and create in new ways'

[Luke Rhinehart, 'The Diceman' - 1971]

once I was NAD said:
i gotta go to the damn dentist now, will write later. plan on drinking a beer with me. :kickass:
i just had to go to the dentist this morning. fucking three fillings, took over 2 hours. dentist told me it was "really difficult, they were really deep". needless to say i feel like i've been beaten in the face with a louisville slugger :zombie:

yeah, i was looking at it at amazon ... looks interesting ... probably some alegorical stuff in it.

That's very cool. I think I should earn a heavy metal bonus point or something, even though I probably read it before any of them guys. :loco:

@Mark/anyone else who cares - The Diceman is good for people 'stuck in a rut', or at a crossroads. It's just an observation of how one can take a complete chance (and then formalizing the action by literally writing down six options and throwing the dice).

Of course, the key is that you HAVE to follow whatever the dice ends up telling you. Bear in mind, this is a FICTIONAL novel, but it's got a cult following for real.

If anything, it's just got a great storyline, and you can imagine how out of control it gets especially as more and more people start living by the dice.

Ali, yeah you've told me about that book before. but i already read Life of Pi upon your recommendation and you haven't read The Satanic Verses, so in this book-game of tit for tat, you're it. :loco:

oh and i wasn't asking about financial advice for myself but thanks anyhow, haha. i have about $10k in a Roth IRA but i think now i can start investing in other ventures. my company doesn't have a 401k yet but i imagine that's coming soon, currently we just have profit sharing.

Congrats man, swing by my place and shout me a beer now that your loaded.

I just started up as a sole trader got my ABN and shit. I sub contract out to my cousin doing web design. Hopefully all will go well. Not making to much money atm but will improve with time. We have plans for more ventures into custom pc's etc.

I actually took Who Moved My Cheese to be a transparent attempt to make the proletariat take the bourgeoise's bullshit without complaining, and then asking for another bowlful.

but then I do see most things in terms of struggle against oppression.
hahaha the only reason i understand this post is becuase of that one sealab 2021 episode where they went commie.

hahaha, yeah i like, wear pants every day to work now and a stupid corporate ponytail.

in case anyone was wondering, the hair shant be cut.

i talked about this before, but most people at my work are all between like 40 and 60 so they totally dig my hair because they're all ex-hippies to a certain extent. it's the youngins that think i'm a freak.

although seriously, the younger generation (and i include my age in this) are fucking morons. i was doing a Karnac impersonation during a meeting once and not only did nobody under the age of 35 get it, but THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHO JOHNNY FUCKING CARSON EVEN WAS. idiots!

idiocy apparently.

oh and i just broke up with my pseudo-chick, things are coming up Milhouse today!
