My old Sanyo boombox isn't cutting it anymore. It's started to skip, not play the first 1 or 2 tracks of an album, and now one of the 3 disc trays won't allow an album to play at all. In other words, I need something new.

Now I don't know a damned thing about audio systems but everyone tells me a component system is the only way to go. So I'm looking for a basic set up at the moment to get me started: a receiver, a disc changer (50 or more discs I suppose), and some frontal speakers.

I don't need anything real fancy but I'd like some quality, duribility, and something that will have some options in case I want to add shit (on the rare chance I learn my way around electronic stuff in the future).

So if anybody has the time and desire, could somebody build me a system (or perhaps a few in some different price ranges)? I'd greatly appreciate it!

PLESAE someone recommend the best there is in some 3-4-5 different price ranges so this poor person will realize how good it can be,... Persoinally I only have experinece nof crappiest, crappy and sucky systems so I won't even try

A system of three like you said is the best I would say; CD, amplifier, speakers seperated, it makes it easier to exchange parts and usually gives a better sound.
experience.

It's pretty hard to recomend any specific model but go for something made by Cambridge, NAD or Denon, all their stuff is made with a focus on sound quality and even the cheapest models usually sound very good. I don't know anything about how hard/easy it is to find their stuff in the states though.

Onkyo and Denon sound especially good for Metal and harder edged stuff.
Spend most of the money on speakers though ... they make or break a system.

My recommendation is to go to a local shop and take some of your favorite CD's and listen to equipment. A good system can last you a long time and you can build on it in the future.

I would think for about $500 you can get a kick ass Denon or Onkyo package (as far as electonics) ... speakers for rock, I woul recommend Klipsch, JBL, Paradigm or Energy.

All these co.'s have websites if you search for them and can usually be found in boutique audio shops.

I sold audio for about 3 years a decade ago ;)

Start with this receiver ... it's a 6 channel unit that you can also use for Home Theater if needed in the future ... $229.00

This is a cool 6 Disc CD changer ... $99.00

And the speakers ... JBL Bookshelves ... $149.00 (pair)

So for about $500 you have a guranteed kick ass system ... which is totally future proof as far as the amp ... and it will crank guaranteed !!!

I am not sure Best Buy carries either one ... but Circuit City should have all I mentioned above.
