I'm surprised there isn't a thread for it already this year. I don't usually watch much of it, but on this occasion I've got a mate who's doing pretty well in it, so am tuning in. Get behind Casey from the Gold Coast. :)

And now, discuss or something.

Hehe yeah I didn't think I'd be starting a thread on AI idol, but there ya go! Does it usually move to the last 24 so quickly? Didn't notice the bass player, but will have a look next time.

I like Adam the singlet guy as well; seems very honest. I hope he and the teacher do well, but not as well as Casey. :)

Easily this will mosdef be either the last season or 2nd last season, once you start loosing main players (james mathiesionskljd and etc) and gets new hosts that viewers are unfamiliar with they quickly lose interest and ratings dive, so far already its the lowest rating season ever and i think i can quite comfortably say that the final episode will barely rate compared to previous finals.

What do you guys think?

I think the fact that no one is even close to being as good as most of last year's lot will spell the end of this show.

Honestly, last seasons American Idol was the best season of Idol ever... Adam Lambert has one of the best voices I have heard anywhere (reality show or not).
This season of Australian Idol is soooooooooooooo shit in comparison

I think part of the reason - but definitely not the only reason - it's so bad is because they let people vote from the beginning of the show. It's purely a popularity contest now - singing ability doesn't enter into it.

That is surely just a money grab. If people can vote from the start, there will be more voting throughout the show, and hence more money being spent on votes. Blurgh. Gore is right, last years was high quality compared to this year and the year before last (Natalie Gauchi anyone?).

It's purely a popularity contest now - singing ability doesn't enter into it.

Considering the only chick who could sing just got booted, and the cross-eyed blond piece has been in the bottom three consecutive weeks despite being half-decent (although she was meh this week), it appears that only women are voting, and only for blokes. I think they should make it more like SYTYCD, and whittle it down by popular vote to three. The judges then vote off the one they like the least. Or, the way I'd do it, which would be for the judges to pick the bottom three and then the public votes on who goes. Because the way the show is now, the judges are completely unnecessary. So is the singing, really, if people are voting before they've even performed. Might as well just pick a winner now.
