Autotune for guitar.

hmm, actually this may be cool for people who do
not have a good guitar or who are having intonation problems in general,
but then again when i hear "it helps you bend like a pro" it makes me :puke:

^

Haha kind of asked to get that answer :p

Well i know exactly what you mean, but i did a adaptive pitch test sometime ago and i got around 0.5.-0.6hz hearing difference. So i would say that i can quite easily hear when something is out of tune, even the slightest.

If this is a good tool then it is like any other tool, we use it when we need it.
Almost everytime i record the guitar can't get fully intonated and that is the same with more expensive ones.

If you do that, you only make the bands slowly realize that no matter how much they can suck, you'll just do all the work for them, don't get credited for it and the audience doesn't realize they suck. :bah: I don't like that on almost any level, as I rather do less work myself and make the band do majority of the work. I rather do less magic and see more real work.
I don't agree with you on this man, 'the proof is in the pudding' I get bands coming to my studio because of what I can do and offer them that other studios don't, I personally can't sit back and let a muso that sucks do 250 takes on a 4 chord progression. I offer a service, if they suck live, then ppl will see that, that's all the credit I need....to be able to turn shit into gold. So I give this product a thumbs up in the right direction, I mean we all tried melodyne DNA on DI guitars remember? that sucked though! So I'm kean to try it our.
P.S. Helping bands sound great is the ultimate cure for my OCD :D HaHa

I vote for "TRY BEFORE JUDGE".

As most of you probably know, guitars don't have a perfect intonation. Every string should be fretted slightly differently for it to be "perfect". This is probably why some producers force guitarists to tune their guitars before every riff. This autotune for guitar could actually be one of those things that can make every guitar sound good... (ironic enough since it's what it's doing for vocalists atm)

I'm also tired of hearing good guitars/amps/cabs sounding bad because the person playing them doesn't know how to tune their guitar.

I'm anxious to see the "artists" list for this product. :D Which of the users will admit it?

I never understood how people can autotune things like vocals and be fine with it but when someone suggests editing guitar in a similar fashion they freak out. If it makes guitar tracks sound better and saves time why not use it?

In all seriousness, I'm definitely interested to hear this...

Exactly. Why think of it as cheating? Sure we could spend extra two studio days tuning a guitar but if this takes care of that automatically we spend time.

IMO recording guitar/vocal tracks in parts is equally "fake" as using autotune to fix it for you. "Sure we can wait the whole day for our vocalist to hit that note perfectly.... at least we can say that we didn't use autotune." :p

That test was based around 2notes, either it was higher or lower then the note before. Of course not the same as having perfect pitch but it gives you and idea on how good your hearing is.

try it for fun: http://tonometric.com/adaptivepitch/

I got 0.825 (edit: And I got 77.8% correct on the tonedeaf test... that was way harder because you couldn't replay the clips and I missed some of them)

Got 80% on the tonedeaf. Some are too long and I think I missed them because I couldn't remember the melody.
On the first one I got 2.5 hZ
Got 92% on the rhythm test

I should try them with headphones next time.

yes and even bass guitar. everyone is fine with autotuning bass. everyone is fine with programming drums. everyone is fine with autotuning vocals. but guitar is different somehow?? i say why not

Not every one is fine with these things.
@OneDaySky:
If your sole goal with your studio is turn over/money then you are on to a winner in the short term but keep working like this and u will reap what you sow. Bands will learn very quickly that you are the 'go 2 guy' for all less than average bands because they will notice what can be done for them, but the more serious players will also notice this and more than likely they will go somewhere they feel will be less 'constricting' to their creative experience. You will be stuck rolling shit in glitter for the rest of your days.

What about passion for music and the joy of hearing acomplished musicians amaze you as they play effortlesly right before your eyes? There is nothing better than this, hit record, sit back and listen to the magic unfold in front of you. It is passion for music that makes me do what I do. I have never used any tuning plugs on anything, and do almost no editing on drums. By being choosy about who you record you will start to attract the more seasoned musican and then you will find that it can be all fun and no work. The irony is your turn over time will be quicker and seasoned mucians are less likely to complain at paying a more premium price for your service so you win all round.
I am not saying YOU personally only record shit bands, but you mentioned you do this for everyone so this is the only reason I can see why this would be. I am not saying I dont record shit bands either I do but I give them what they give me nothing more, nothing less. I do the best I can to make sure it sounds ok and will translate well and I think if you do that then it is not hard for the average listener to realise that what is lacking in the songs is the performance, not the mix.
One mans opinion.

I don't think "everyone" is fine with autotuned bas and vocals. Many articles and posts will say otherwise. I think it's now accepted that this process happens, but many many people are still not fine with it.
I'm just glad that lots of classic albums were produced years before this desire for perfection came about.
