Autotuning guitar machine heads

By the way I'm searching for tuners (or machine heads, not sure if those are the same or not) that allow you to switch from one tuning to another (you know, to go from E to D for instance), do you have some recommandations or know how this works ? Thanks !

I don't know about tuners that drop E to D, but what about something like the good 'ol Hipshot? EVH uses something that's similar, but I don't think that it's a Hipshot.

There are several versions of this type of thing out at the moment. There was a bridge by itself that did it but it cost something crazy like 3 grand and jimmy page wsa using it or something :goggly:

Sod that tho, looks bulky and more than likely pricey

Yeah funnily I just finally found it, Hipshot Xtenders as they are called, but I hope there is another cheaper brand because it's about $95 for one, and I have 7 strings... :(

So, wanna drop the 7th string? :OMG:

There's not much by the way of this out there, the only thing I know of is the trilogy bridge from Hipshot but that's only 6 for 6 string and it's fucking ugly!!

I've personally always had a seperate guitar for different tunings as the intonation for one tuning isn't going to be ideal for another one.

I'm actually just re-building an old bass that I'm going to use for drop D stuff with my sleaze rock band, I was going to get an Xtender for my main bass but it's going to cost me less to rebuild this £3 jazz bass copy than it would to buy the single Xtender.

Fuck me and my stupid ideas =)
I've also found EVH D-Tuna, but it's for floyd roses. An Ibanez model also has a D-Tuner but still, not really what I want. If I could pay to have 7 hipshot I think that would be my better option...

The only problem will be that you can't fit two hipshot de-tuners next to each other, the lever is too long.

Check this out. A bit intrusive, but cool:

Also, Steinberger has something called the TransTrem. It is a transposing tremolo system that you pull up or down and lock in place that gives you several different tunings (I used to use it to switch within a tune between E and F# tuning). It is pretty cool - As you pull the trem bar, all of the strings stay in tune with each other, which doesn't happen with a Floyd or vintage trem.

Probably neither of these are good solutions for heavy music for a variety of reasons. Probably best to just have a couple guitars tuned how you want 'em and switch...

It is maybe not that what you are looking for, but with the Line6 Variax it would be possible to make a preset for each tuning and you could switch between those while playing.
I tried that last year at the Musikmesse and it's actually pretty funny to mess around with it.

Yeah! It does the trick!!!

The only downside is that is a six strings only (I think Brett wants a seven strings for this things) and the estetics of the Variaxes is so... ...:Puke:

You can mount Variax hardware on a new guitar but it costs a lot (I've seen something like this done on a Guitarist magazine some months ago).
