Avantasia double album

Edguy's gone off the rails, but Avantasia still has some amazing moments. The thought of two Avantasia albums to sink my teeth into come April has me pretty excited. Lots of good power metal releases in the first half of the year what with Rhapsody, Gamma Ray, Dream Evil, Masterplan, and Freedom Call also coming out with albums. And aren't we going to get a new Kamelot and Symphony X release too?

Right. Though, I only disliked Tinnitus, while I thought Rocket Ride was pretty good. Still though, it seems Tobi is utilizing all his creativity towards Avantasia instead of Edguy.

I actually liked both Tinnitus and rocket Ride, but only because Edguy as a hard rock band is still a very good hard rock band. It's just that as a power metal band they are magic, whereas as a hard rock band they are merely good.

I totally agree with all of this statement. I enjoy Edguy's hard rock stuff, but the metal is so much more exciting and engaging. Can't wait to see what the new Avantasia brings. I suspect some of both.

Bingo. I fully endorse this statement.

Hellfire Club and Mandrake are two of my favorite power metal records ever, but the last two have merely been good hard rock albums.

Sure Edguy has changed their style lately, but let's be fair here, Avantasia is not exactly the bombastic power metal outfit they were before. I thought that their last record had a lot of newer influences and lots of "not so power metal" moments.

That being said, I'm looking forward to hearing this album. I know Tobias can write amazing music. It shouldn't be different this time around.

I don't know. Nothing on Tinnitus was exactly memorable to me, but you're right. The power metal stuff is when they're at their best but they aren't a bad hard rock album on Rocket Ride only (in my opinion).

It'll be interesting to see if they do full on power metal with the new Avantasia, as someone mentioned the last one had some new influences.

I hope they don't do full on power metal, I love the variety and melodic tunes on the more recent Edguy and Avantasia. I think Tobias is in a good spot now because if he comes up with a cool, softer melodic song...it's appropriate, but if he does feel a bombastic, machine-gun double bass assault, no one would find it unusual either. I like the flexibility he has constructed for himself.

Yea, that's what I hoping for this next Avantasai compilation.

I hope this project spans the expected range of styles and hits the right notes, so to speak, at the right times. I hope there's furious power metal, emotional ballads, and incredible epic bombast, as well as some great mid-tempo melodic hard rock/metal stuff as well - all applied and executed well. Given the list of singers and what Tobias has said, I think we can expect all of this and more.

Jon and I had a blast recording his vocals for this song.
It was written perfectly for his voice and character.
Creepy, dark, mysterious, eerie....very cool.
Thanks again to Tobias for the opportunity!
