thanks y'all...
it was weird... that area doesn't see "ethnic" people often... so my supervisor and I were getting some weird looks...
but being up there... I was hiking and I got to a point when it hit me... there was this total silence... all I could hear was my own heartbeat... gorgeous

The Rockies just have an appeal all to themselves. So many cool places to see... and so majestic!

I miss the mountains - but at least we have an abundance of wildlife, rivers, and trees here in Tennessee!

Hmmmmmm.......hey Melzie.......mebbe we need to plan a camping trip again. I know you had been thinking about it for quite awhile.

Sounds good to me, although outside of carrying a cheap sleeping bag in the trunk of my car, I don't know how to properly plan or prepare for a camping trip. Any of you outdoorsy-type southern california maiden-heads have any thoughts to where might make a good weekend camping excursion, and what kinds of things should be considered for a camping trip?

Now that's camping!!! HEHEHEHEHEE!!!!

Actually, I camp out quite a lot. I love the outdoors. That quietness, solitude, and...and...and... when your out in the middle of nowhere is great! Mel, I can give you a few pointers on what to bring to make the trip 'fun' & 'comfy'. Nothing worse than freezing your ass off, starving, and being eaten alive by mosquitoes!

Where to camp? There are many campgrounds locally, however I've not stayed at any of them (most of the time I camp out on the mountain) so I can't recommend which is nice or not. I've camped in the Mammoth area many times and have been to Yosemite several times. Saddlebag Lake is a favorite of mine which is just outside of Yosemite. Yosemite is a place to see. Put that on your "Places to visit before I die" list. Yosemite can sometimes get very crowded in the summer/peek times, which really sucks.

Depending on what your looking for in a camping trip depends on what type of place you'll want to stay at. Do you want to hike? Or fish? Or layback and Sunbath? Or just sit-n-party? Do you even want to camp at a campground? Campgrounds usually provide bathroom facilites and sometimes even showers. Some provide fire pits, food storage lockers (bear proof), water, and even a cafe/general store. If you camp out in the wilderness, your on your own!

My best suggestion for the list of things to have as well as where to go (since the list is sooo long) is to go to Barnes & Noble and browse around. You'll find countless books on all that info., and get some great ideas. Of course, next time we run into eachother I can give you loads of info. But, here's a starting list...

Camping list
1) Bring extra clothes (in case you get cold or wet). You don't want clothing made of cotton (they hold water which keeps you cold). Wind repellent shells are nice if it's windy.
2) Foam pad for putting under sleeping bag (nothing worse than a rock grinding into you)
3) Lots of water, ice chest full of ice & beer
4) Propane powered bbq, burgers, buns, all condiments (this really makes the trip awesome, it's the best!). Camping stove works too. Note: uncontrolled flames not allowed, campgrounds have exceptions with firepits, however with the recent local fires, they might still be temporarily banned, you'll need to check up on this.
5) Mosquitoe repellent (worth a million if you need it)
6) Chairs
7) lights/flashlights
8) Sun block
9) Hat
10) Sunglasses
11) Tunes
12) TOILET PAPER!!! (ALSO WORTH A MILLION WHEN YOU NEED IT!)
13) There's much more, but this is a start.
