Are they any good?

A real fun band in my opinion. Good speedy and occasionally thrashy riffage with bombastic drumming and odd vocals - Imagine a deep voiced Orson Welles narration with Quorthon-esque shrieks here and there. The keys and orchestral atmosphere are very powerful, but not flowery due to the fact that there are really fucking good riffs. I enjoy them.

Battle Magic fucking sucks. Try "Starfire Burning blah blah blah". You'll be surprised at how good it is.

They're... meh. Their music is ok and can be very atmospheric at times, but the vocals are generally beyond gay, epsecially when he's just talking in his "narrate a children's story" voice.

I kind of like them. The instrumentation and riffage can be pretty cool, but for some reason those weird spoken word vocals don't go over to well with me - they remind me of Mayhem's Grand Declaration of War.

I found Bal-Sagoth to be pretty average. I liked a little bit of Battle Magic, but only because it sounded like power metal with a Cradle of Filth fetish. The fake trumpets are the best.
