That wasn't an easy poll. Fates Warning, Vanden Plas and Symphony X are all next to perfect live. Tad Morose's last three releases can stack up to any band's and so can Vanden Plas but I haven't seen TM live, yet (will get my cance in September.) I had to go with VP. Their studio releases are fantastic and their live show is as good as any band I have ever seen.

What is a shame is that due to the American music scene, the only way Americans can see bands like Vanden Plas and Tad Morose is the one big prog and power festival, Prog Power USA.

I voted for Stratovarius. However I love all the bands in this poll and think they are all great. Except I cannot say that about Vanden Plas since I have never heard their music. They are definetly on my list of bands to check out though as I have heard amazing stuff about them.
Vanden Plas is not going to mow you down with their power. That's not to say that they don't have some powerful songs and powerful moments, but thety are a melodic band and that is where their strength is. If you do like melodic metal, they are tough to beat. They aren't household names by any means but they weren't one of those bands that had to "grow on me." They hit me like a ton of bricks when I first heard "Rainmaker" and "You Fly" from "The God thing" release.

I figured you would go with them. I just picked a handful of bands & added them to this poll... "The God Thing" is a great record. Like you said, unfortunately the won't be doing a tour across this country. It would be great to see them live.

My vote goes to Fates Warning, mostly because of their albums "The Spectre Within" ("The Apparition" and "Epitaph" or still my favourite Fates Warning songs), "Perfect Symmetry" and "Awaken The Guardian".

Tad Morose is hitting pretty hard in this poll for such an unknown band outside of Sweden. I voted for Vanden Plas myself, but TM had two votes. Urban and the boys are turning some heads !!! Now I have to go over to the TM forum and pick at Urban some.

I wanted to vote for Fates but Tad Morose deserve at least one vote :)
Amen brother !!! Had any band other than Accept and Vanden Plas been up there TM would have got my vote. On the TM board, I don't let Urban know just how much TM kicks my ass, but they do. When I play "Take on the World" I want to go next door and beat up my neighbors just for the hell of it. That band reminded me of why I love music and particularly metal music recently. Sitting in front of my PC and listening to TM is honestly in my top 10 normal things I enjoy as of late. If this band kicked my ass any harder, I would be standing up while typing this.
