BANDCAMP

I think the best thing is that it is directly linked to PayPal, and therefore makes buying an album just a few clics aways. I personally like it as a buyer.

It's great, I've done full albums, singles, pre-releases, you name it.

I really like the stats and traffic logging, to see where people are coming in from. It's been a few years since I used Tunecore, but I can say that I definitely like Bandcamp much, much more than TC.

You can set prices, set prices but allow them to pay more, or you can just go free/PWYW.

I find that PWYW gives you a lot of $1 full album downloads... but every now and again someone will give you $10/$15/$20 for a release if they really like it, so it averages out a bit.

You are limited to a certain amount of free downloads every month (I want to say 200), and once you hit that mark, no one can download any more unless you pay Bandcamp. So if you offer something as a totally free d/l and hit that mark early, you might run into some issues.

I think overall, between Bandcamp and Tunecore, I made just over $1500 over the course of about 3 years. Nowadays nearly everything I had originally sold is now available as PWYW but every now and again I'll get a random PayPal email that I just got $10, so it's a nice surprise when it happens :D Of course, a more established band can make much, much more than that - that's just my example.

Well that's very interesting..
is 5$ a good price for an album ?
How much do you sell your tracks, 1$ ?

I'd say, don't overprice an album because unless you are well known, no one is gonna buy it.

However, selling an album for a dollar just screams "I'm cheap and my music is cheap too".

So I'm sure there is a middleground to be found here, and something like 4e for an EP, and 7 for an album, is low enough to be interesting, and high enough to make it sound legit.

Per track should stay 1 dollar, sounds fair to me

Of course it's implying the music is good. No one is buying an album that sounds like shit anyway

I like Bandcamp and I set all my prices as "base price or more" and about 30% of all buyers pay more than the base price!

However, I make 25 times the amount of money on Tunecore (iTunes/Amazon/Emusic), so while Bandcamp is a nice addition, most people simply don't know it exists.
