What are some other bands out there that have the Iced Earth sound... power-metal meets speed-metal meets thrash-metal... I really dig the Vox style from Dark Saga, Horror Show, The Glorius Burden, and SWTWC...:headbang: :kickass: :headbang: :kickass: :kickass: :headbang: :kickass: :headbang: :kickass:

my favs off those lists are:
manilla road - crystal logic
jag panzer - ample destruction
cirith ungol - king of the dead

but none of them really sound like iced earth ... at all.

SHAH (to see where Jon Schaffer stole all his riffs from)

and you'll probably also be interested in Demons & Wizards (side project of Iced Earth and Blind Guardian)

Ok... So, I checked out Iced Earth's S/T and Nights of the Stormrider. For anyone who stumbled upon this thread and digs IE's newer stuff (like the stuff I mentioned above)... I second the recommendation to add these two albums to your collection. That being said, I must say that from the S/T to Nights of the Stormrider one can truely hear IE's growth as a band. While both albums feature a different singer and drummer, all four of whom would not play on another IE album... one can say that their focus became clearer between S/T and NOTSR. What do you guys think of Burnt Offerings?

tagradh: I'm a big Blind Guardian fan! Hellz yeah!

A note on kick ass tuneage... I recently discovered Fates Warning: Awaken the Guardian. WOA! This album kicks serious ass. If you guys dig IE... check it out. Most of you probably already consider that a classic... but for those of you like me who are more familiar with Fates Warning's newer (more progressive) stuff like X and A Pleasent Shade of Gray... if you're looking for some power metal tuneage... Check out Awaken the Guardian

well I would say that most NWOBHM bands resemble Iced Earth

Really? I don't know man... I'm a Maidan and Priest fan definitely... and I know as far as metal is concerned (especially more power oriented shit) pretty much everyone is influenced in some way or another by NWOBHM shit... But, Iced Earth seems to be more influenced by The Post NWOBHM thrash scene... Ala Anthrax and Metallica.. Of course their newer stuff definitely has a Symphonic/Epic metal edge... So, I wouldn't be surprised if they are influenced by that.

I guess I do hear what you mean by imagery and vox taking a lot from the more artistic/live show maiden/priest shit... especially with the newer stuff... But, Ripper Owens was a member of Priest... so, I think that's a given.

Interestingly enough though, I grant you that on their Tribute to the Gods album priest and maiden both make an appearance... but, shit... they probably would on a tribute album I'd make too... and I wouldn't say my band has that sound at all. KISS, AC/DC, and BOC are also on there... so, you know... that doesn't say too much.

But, I definitely appreciate the opportunity to look at their music from that way now. Thanks. :Smokin:

if you fancy them, take a listen at Saxon too. Their old stuff is just old school rock actually but their latest Lionheart sounds a little more power/epic metal
