Bands like Vinterland, Sacramentum, Dissection?

cheers bro ive heard none of these. or sad legend for that matter.

I'd say only the Swordmaster EP and The Black's The Priest of Satan are really worth your time. The Cardinal Sin EP is pretty cool, but it doesn't tread any new ground and only serves to interest fanatics. The Moaning is third tier at best.

Thats the second time you say that but in reality Dissection is pretty much melodic death metal as well. I agree it has a black metal feel to it but the riffs are often in the borderline area between the genres. They also incorporated quite abit of traditional heavy metal influence.

I'm well aware of all the influences in Dissection's music. I'd wager I'm more familiar with their music than most people here. ;)

That's besides the point though, which is the fact that Soulreaper sound nothing like Vinterland, Sacramentum and to a lesser extent, Dissection.

WOW THANKS FOR FUCKING TELLING ME, I ALREADY BOUGHT 14 COPIES OF THAT MOANING RECORD. stop namedropping 3rd tier bands for street cred asshole

I am surprised Noctes hasn't been mentioned yet. Both Pandemonic Requiem and Vexilla Regis Prodeunt Inferni are competent releases in the style. More accessible and ultimately less enjoyable than the best in the genre, but worth checking out I think.

Black Horizons : complete Dissection worship (as evidenced by their name). Their songwriting has nothing on Jon Nordveit, though.

Infinitum Obscure : Add their own twist to the formula pioneered by Dissection, yet the influence is blatant.

Cardinal Sin : Side project by a Dissection member. The vocals are annoying, but music-wise, they're very, VERY good and are the closest thing to Dissection. Too bad they only released three songs.

Sentenced -North From Here.
