bands with female singers.

Luca Turilli - The Infinite Wonders of Creation. There's a male vocalist and a female vocalist, they switch off and do duets but iirc she gets a little more. Good album if you like classical-influenced happy prog metal.

Leaves' Eyes 'lovelorn'. I was addicted to this album at some point. great stuff

Xandria
Theater of Tragedy (also Leaves' Eyes, if you enjoy Liv's vocals)
Therion (they have several singers, one of whom is a female)
Within Temptation
Battlelore
Crimfall

I'm not commenting on the quality of any of these groups, merely mentioing bands that have clean female vocals.

melodic death metal with harsh male vocals (quite good) and clean female vocals (quite nice) and a little techno influence (that works) :)

there are not that many bands out there with good female vocals. but these few are really great:

Madder Mortem
The Provenance
Gåte
Amaran
Left Hand Solution
Cantata Sangui
The Gathering
The 3rd And The Mortal
Estrum

things that are good:

Dark Moor (up to + including 'Between Light And Darkness')
Nightwish (up to + including 'Over The Hills and Far Away')
Beautiful Sin
White Skull (up to + including 'Public Glory, Secret Agony')

things that are utterly putrid:

Within Temptation
Epica
Visions of Atlantis
Leaves' Eyes

and sorry..but that Luca Turilli album is just wretched..his first one is pretty good, the second one is amazing, and then that last one is beyond bad. BUT, the vocalist he uses on it, Bridget Fogle, is indeed great, an extremely excellent and powerful singer...perhaps she doesn't get lots of attention from the metal community because she is slightly large and also black rather than rail-thin and 'gothic' looking.

and though it's not metal, I STRONGLY second that Antimatter suggestion, Antimatter is incredible.

Yeah, that third Luca Turilli album really was awful. Then he released his little side project thing that was even worse. When is he going to go back to that original trilogy he was working on and release the third installment?

maudlin of the Well has occasionally had good female vocals as well, and who doesn't like maudlin of the Well? no.. don't stand up and make me hate you..

songs:

Ferocious Weights
Pondering A Wall
Blight of River Systems
The Ferryman
Girl With A Watering Can
The Curve That To An Angle Turn'd
Monstrously Low Tide
