bands with female singers.

^^yes, they were a good band.

you're also completely right about Antimatter and Visions Of Atlantis. where Antimatter stands for pure brilliance,Visions Of Atlantis is utterly horrible

Draconian, their latest Turning Season Within is excellent.

Silent Winter from Where Lovers Mourn.

A Scenery of Loss from Arcane Rain Fell.

things that are good:

Dark Moor (up to + including 'Between Light And Darkness')
Nightwish (up to + including 'Over The Hills and Far Away')
Beautiful Sin
White Skull (up to + including 'Public Glory, Secret Agony')

things that are utterly putrid:

Within Temptation
Epica
Visions of Atlantis
Leaves' Eyes

I get this feeling a lot of people that dislike Within Temptation have not heard enter which is a lot better than say anything from Nightwish. Within Temptation were actually an original band also.

I've only heard 'The Silent Force' on, admittedly, but that album and those following it I can easily say are some of the worst albums I've ever, ever heard. I'm not really in much of a hurry to hear earlier stuff, it would need to be literally a different band. Also, while I'm posting I need to say I'm sort of tired of 'female vocal metal' being looked at like a whole separate genre.. I know that's where the thread points, but I'm just saying...... first it's ridiculously sexist, and second, MAYBE there's some common ground between later Nightwish and a band such as this, but Nightwish up to around 'Century Child' pretty much just sounds like Nightwish, they can be identified as a pretty Finnish band, but that's really about it. Lacuna Coil should be the bastard child all of these horrible popgoth bands are compared to...oh, and LC is garbage too IMO, and always has been.

Reino Ermitaño are awesome. Your ears are just so filled up with cum you can't tell.

Orphanage-oblivion has a cool minimalistic use of female vocals, one of my favorite albums along with By Time Alone which is the album where the band expiriments more with female vocals bringing them more upfront. I like pretty much everything about this band and wish their old albums were reissued, am alone.
