For the sake of argument, let's just say that the average CD costs $15 US. Again, for the sake of argument, let's agree that the average bargain bin price is $8 US. Which albums would you pay half price for but not full price? I'll go first: just about anything by In Flames.

Well, I dunno about what I *would* get at bargain prices, but here are things I have gotten for cheap and a verdict on each of them:

Memory Garden - Verdict of Posterity (decent Swedish trad-doom, singer's got a pretty alright voice, music really isn't that doomy or all that special)

Ribspreader - Bolted to the Cross (I'm starting to get wary of any Dan Swano death metal-related release, with Crimson II, the new Bloodbath, and this one not being that great at all)

Arcane Sun - s/t (FUCK YEAH!)

That's all I remember, but hell... I'd take a chance on pretty much anything for 6 bucks!

damn, we got some cheap bastards in here. and you people still have jobs! :loco:

I usually won't pay more than $8 for a used CD unless it's a rarity I truly want (Mayhemic Truth). I'll take some risk with a used CD, but I need to be sure of myself that it'll sell for the same price, or I can get a good trade out of it.

Best finds include two Arckanum CDs, WAR Comp Vol I, Kyuss/QOTSA split, SOns of Kyuss, al found for about $8 a piece.

They are like a second rate Candlemass. Some of their stuff is very good though.

Agreed. I've also been listening to my Odyssey and Nightingale ("I") CDs lately, and they bore the hell out of me. Add Moontower to the list of crud and I'm hardpressed to think of anything decent that he's done outside of some EoS and a few random cameos. Great producer though.

Look no further than Pan.Thy.Monium.

For this paragraph I hate you more than anything :erk:

Nightingale's one of my all time favourite bands, Moontower's pretty good, and I love Dan's stuff in general. I think Nightingale's "I" is the weakest album, mostly 'cause of the "WTH IS THIS SHIT?" production and lack of variety in the songs. Some great stuff on there, but not enough to stand up to the other ones. Most of Swano's stuff will always have sentimental attachment for me, especially the Unicorn demos which I was fortunate enough to find (in their 4 CDr re-release set format) on Ebay a few months ago. I can't really explain my love for his non-metal stuff, but then again, why not?

Swano. I've got all PTM originals, and most of his EoS stuff (lacking Infernal and the debut), and I like all of those. I have all Diabolical Masquerade albums that he played on, though Death's Design is meh.

But yeah, Bloodbath and Crimson II aren't worth owning.

I slighty enjoyed Nighingale's "I" and "Alive Again" if only for having something "soft" to listen to on occasion, but they really aren't all that great. The first two, I thought, were crap.

Odyssey was OK, if only a little more metalized version of Nightingale.

I haven't played Moontower in ages. ANyone wanna trade?

Pan.Thy.Monium stands as his best band or project.

I'd trade for your Moontower or the 2nd Nightingale album (The Closing Chronicles) if you have it, but I don't even know what's on my list anymore. Dig it up on the last page or two of the Our Trade List thread and check it out, but I doubt anything will come of it :\

I got all of my Mr. Bungle albums and Kyuss albums at bargain bin prices. I also got Faith No More - Angel Dust at $5.99 CDN. Stuff worth looking into if you want some cheap stuff that's fairly decent.

This thread reminds me of before I had a credit card or knew what online stores were and bought my metal at major chains (HMV mostly) for upwards of $26.99 CAD! OUCH!

yeah. Those were the days.

fuckin' HMV :erk:

They're getting cheaper now, it seems! And even the smaller ones are carrying Moribund Cult releases, which don't appeal to me at all, but it's a step up from just having the "big labels" in stock!

Well, they've been getting better. I've seen 'N Crugu Bradului and some Deströyer 666 stuff in the one in downtown edmonton, but they're still asking $30.99 for those.

I main go into HMV these days to laugh at their prices and then laugh at the idiots who pay those prices, but deep down inside I knew it used to be me :(

Getting 3 sealed, new cds for just a bit more than I paid for one cd back then is pretty funny , especially since the ones I bought back then ranged from mediocre to absolute crap! (let's just pretend I don't own Hammerfall's "Legacy of Kings")

Swano should have made a full-length Odyssey album...Amon Ra is one of his best tracks IMO. I dig Moontower and it was my introduction to him, but I rarely pull it off the shelf as of late. As for Nightingale, I think Closing Chronicles is great and I like most of I, but the two most recent ones were disappointments.
As for the original question, just about any album I was at least vaguely interested by but never bothered checking out.
