Barge to Hell vs. Mayhem Festival Cruise

If it were a prog cruise, we would all still be at the dock when it left port because we like such long intros (bad joke).

Look, This is an attempt from the "big boys" to see if they can dominate the cruise world. It is going to do OK because Muffy and Buffy are going to whine to Daddy that they want to go on a cruise. Daddy will open up his wallet to make his little Muffy and Buffy happy, and they will go on the cruise. It will be all the "cool" kids with money, period. It is the regular fan that will not bother with this. As for Barge to Hell: It is by far the more superior festival. They have more experienced hands running it. That said, RIGHTLY or WRONGLY, it is more of an "Insiders" festival. A lot of people that go to this are musicians, music writers, and other industry pros and fans of the MUSIC, not because it is "hip" or "cool".

My 1 Piso worth.

It’s time we have a progressive rock cruise. Bring back the Triton cruise.

I think if another Triton cruise was announced, it would die a very fast death, due to the way the last one was handled. Just my opinion.

not that I want to get into the way Triton was handled ( I got a partial refund), but I went on the cruise even after the event was cancelled (had a blast with Nils & Steinar from Pagan's Mind and Chris Kinder from JOP) and I'm glad I did because I met Alicia (Dragongrrl) who convinced me to FINALLY pull the trigger and attend ProgPower USA in 2010, so for that I'm eternally grateful!

as far as Mayhem vs Barge? I would go on the Monsters of Rock cruise instead: Y & T, Loudness, VXN, Femme Fatale, Black n Blue, TNT, Tesla, Lita Ford, and more...

A Partial Refund but you did enjoy the cruise which is good. You are one of the lucky ones, there are still lots who have gotten nothing. Here is a quote from Blabbermouth by the promoter when the cruise was cancelled. In my opinion legal action should be considered.

"All tickets purchased may be honored to cruise on the Carnival Imagination without the event and a partial refund will be credited to those exercising this option. Purchasers who would prefer a full refund will receive 100% of their purchase paid."

She ran off with the cash, or, she got into a very bad financial bind personally, and used the cash to cover her personal debts. In other words, she ran off with the cash.

That said, the only way Triton, or a facsimile thereof gets started again, is if it is run by someone with the last name of either Harveston or Block. Though there are probably others that could run it, certain people with those last names are trusted withing the community that Triton was meant to serve.

OR LANCE KING and company, long story maybe i will share it one day.

Yeppers everyone agrees she ran off with alot of the money, and gave a hard time to those people that did get a refund or partial refund, I just hope everyone remembers who did this, and doesn't get taken again by this person.

I know I never saw my money again... My buddy got a partial refund about a year after the cancellation.

Another funny thing about the way this was handled is, after the cancellation announcement, the website went dark, e-mails went unanswered, and after awhile it became apparent, that the promoters e-mail had changed, disappeared from facebook and from everywhere.

I'll be curious how the new Wacken Cruise (with bands playing in ports as well) will affect the European fan contingent/numbers that have been a mainstay for his past 2 cruises.

I'm not sure how things will go...the Wacken cruise does have UNLIMITED BEER, but you have to pay extra to see the bands at ports. I doubt sales will be affected this round, as most of the returnees have already booked their cabin. I know I wouldn't want to pay for the plane ticket to Europe just to be on a boat. In the future, I'd be somewhat interested if it gave enough port time to actually see some interesting sights.

I see you are paying attention to the rock and metal cruises. Hmmm, could the seed of a ProgPower cruise be in the future? Considerably more expensive than Atlanta for the audience but I think you'd broaden your appeal to include more spouses. Making the festival more than just a metal-head fest.

On that note, a question to those who have attended the 70,000 Tons cruise...

How much "room" so to speak, is there for non-metal fans? In other words, are the areas of the cruise ship that are a bit more secluded, away from the music/stages/concerts/craziness where people can actually relax?

There's a big chance I'll "have to be" at 70,000 Tons of Metal next year (lol ;) ) and I am debating whether or not to have the wife join. However, she's not a metalhead and she'd be miserable at a cruiseship where you can't relax. Any input?

I wanna go and bring my husband but he won't come for that very reason... D: I WANNA GO SO BAD.

Barge to Hell would be my pick out of the two... Seems like you are getting more "special" one off-ers or just bands that normally wouldn't tour as much over here on that cruise... I would LOVE to FINALLY see Hypocrisy, they missed the FL date when they came through last time. Also seems like the crowd would be a little different - die hard death metal fans vs fans of bands that are more mainstream and tough guys.. PASS

Mayhem just seems like a numbers game just because the bands are big enough to pull it off? Then again, its probably a much more expensive cruise to pull off.

Are you saying a ship full of 75% overweight, hairy men that smell like sunscreen and beer, singing along intoxicated all day and night to their favorite bands isn't relaxing? hahahaha

You can relax, it's fine. You may hear some muted bass sounds, but there are plenty of places to lie down in the sun without a large crowd. Everyone is super relaxed. You can easily walk to the front of any show, there's no pushing and I've never seen any aggression at all.
