Where can one hear the best bass tone ever recorded? My vote is Geddy Lee on Exit Stage Left, most notably with "Red Barchetta".
Weigh in.

Hmm, at the moment, the only one I can think of is on Stargazer's The Scream that Tore the Sky.

*EDIT* I can't remember which songs, but there are quite a few Type O Negative ones, in my opinion.

*EDIT* Wolf Moon ftw.

love Butler on Heaven and Hell ... most notably Die Young.

Geddy Lee of course ... on everything!

Good call on Type O and Stargazer.

I don't even like Rush that much but Geddy always had an amazing tone.

Melvin Gibbs during the Rollins Band days.

Death - Individual Thought Patterns

Enslaved - Monumension

White Zombie - Astro Creep

Primus - Pork Soda

Alice in Chains - Dirt (waaaaay underrated bassist back then)

Metallica - ...And Justice For All

Nine Inch Nails - Further Down the Spiral, in particular The Art of Self Destruction, Pt. 1 (synth bass but I don't care).

Anything by Bootsy. ANYTHING.

Ulver - Bergtatt

Sepultura - Chaos A.D. even if the lines themself are really boring

Etc.

Spiral Architect's A Sceptic's Universe

the fact that skeptic is spelled wrong has always bothered me. whatever.

I think the official academic term for the philosophical school of the name is "sceptic"

It's sort of understandable with Latinate hard "c", but it's really misleading in modern English.

I need to give Damnation a listen today. I've always been a fan of Martin's tone (and headbanging style) but never really got into Damnation, in spite of Michael's best recorded solo and the great bass tone.
