I've heard the first 4 at a friends 2,3 times. I decided that maybe those ones are their older style checking out a song from hammerheart earlier today.

The guitar playing just does nothing for me at all. oh well

I don't mind simplicity but the guitar playing just sounds like it's in the mix for no reason imo. As a guitarist that's important to a certain degree. Not sure what i'm suppose to be looking for to grab me. Nothing is standing out to me at all. I tried to make an effort to like this.

Quorthon's material wasn't any revelation in terms of skill(though it is quite heavy aesthetically for its time, sort of like Obituary...)... the man basically saw and did everything that Black Metal has done since than. Going from the early raw satanic stuff, to the better produced viking theme, and than adding orchestration and mythology.

I'm partial to Blood Fire Death as well as the ST and the Nordland saga. Many of his albums are worth a listen though.

I had a friend burn me most of the Bathory cds a coupleweeks ago, Ireall have to listen to most of it still. But from what I heard (s/t, Under the sign, Twilight of the Gods) it was cool..
