... and from the "new" shit, try "Nordland I especially the song "Forever darkwoods" which is similar to "One rode to Asa bay"

Well the Nordlands are closer to the Hammerheart sound than the "new" thrash stuff anyways.

Blood Fire Death is my favorite.

....aaaand while it's not Bathory or metal, Purity of Essence (Quorthon's second "solo" album) is very good too.

the one pictured above is the original cd version i do think

they toned down the sunwheel on subsequent reissues, presumably because of rabid "OMG NAZI" germans

I did not get really into Blood Fire Death so far. If you are looking for epic viking stuff you might be disappointed, because it is still mostly thrash metal. There are only two or something actually epic and vikingish (still thrashy) songs on it.

The Return is good first wave black metal, but i can't compare it to his other bm stuff, as i only have this album. Some say it is his best bm album though.

The Nordland albums, at least Nordland 1 are pretty good but probably you will want to try the more classical stuff (Hammerheart, Twilight of The Gods - on which i can't comment).
