Bay Area Boredom

Just discussing thrash in general with a friend and his reverence for bay area thrash seems to be absolute. By the time I was old enough to buy records etc Metallica were releasing rubbish like load, so I by and large never became a major fan. It got me to wondering why the scene is considered so legendary. Some of it is ok in places, but by and large it is extremely boring. Once you have heard early Sodom it is difficult to listen to early Death Angel, and early Kreator stomps all over anything to come out of the bay area.

Am I the only one who finds bay area thrash boring and bland?

There was a lot of weak stuff that came out of the Bay Area, especially around 1989-ish with the masses of late-comers, but the classic stuff is still genre-defining. Obviously if you have a preference towards the early first-wave black and death/thrash bands, there won't be as much appealing to you.
