Mastering a guitar sound with a BBE?
the sonic maximizer is a big piece of shit that does sound good in anything but hifi stereo equipment... for watching movies and such... it makes RAW, MEAN Metal guitars sound like little pussy 10 watt no name amps.

I dunno the BBE does only have 3 knobs how hard can it be to use. I have never used the rack unit but I use the pluging quit a bit so I am no help.
I never use the plug on guitars though if thats worth anything.

This has been covered in another thread. One of the first things I checked for when I found the forum was Mr Sneap's take on BBEing guitars. He posted "no no no no". Four no in a row is pretty decisive.
BBE don't just scoop the mids, it takes all the oomph out - presumably 'cos it works by messing with the phase. No amount of eq before or after will put the punch back into the sound. I know 'cos I've owned one.

I spent a week adjusting the knobs... all it did was remove everything from my recto that I liked about it... including overall volume... so, it might not be a "big piece of shit" as in what you would define a "big piece of shit" as, but as far as guitar tone goes, it doesnt help it at all. IMHO

Yeah but that's Andy Sneap. Unfortunately not all of us have the talent (nor the time) to get his tones. I've had several rush jobs where the BBE has saved real crap tones from certain death (a la dark side powers/anakin, different story there). Plus Brett uses it and he's turned out some real killer shit.
I don't use it when I get good guitar tones straight to disk.

I'd only ever use the plugin like Bob does, with the knobs on 0, just to add some sub harmonics.
