If any of those guys really use a Maximizer, I bet it's just to goose their live tone a bit, not for studio recordings. During the World Needs A Hero tour, Dave Mustaine's racks contained BBE 862s (one of which is now gathering dust in my spare bedroom upstairs).

Not a BBE fan here, either. Don't buy it. Save your money & go get a real amp like a 6505.

It actually works pretty great with live bass, from what I've heard... not so much recording, though...
