I remember talking to their first guitarist, Cory, at their first show in Atlanta and he said he'd only been playing guitar for like 4 months before they recorded. I loved the sound to their first album.

I think Joey mic'ed the amps for it.
I love how raw they sound.

Woah. I seriously thought they were real amps. Definitely sound sick though. I've always liked this band. Their last album was kinda shitty though.

sorry to go offtopic joey, but i've listened to before their eyes a lot
and its really nice sounding, songs are too pop for my liking but quite cool.

so the rectifier was hooked up to a standard 1960 right ?
really powerful sound ! you got some more info on the recording chain ?
and how did you treat the vocals ? did you use autotune or did the singer

A:

the drums are fake and programmed
the guitars are going through a boss noise suppressor because my studio is noisey, then into a mesa, which is hooked up to a cab in the live room

no mic on the cab, run a line signal from fx loop send to a direct box and into a pre, then send that to cab simulator plugin on the computer, record the output of that

later at mix down, some eq on the guitars

vocals are compressed as much as possible, and auto tune is cranked all the way up at all times

harmonies are fake and made in the computer

this is how it is done... sad but true!!

the specific recording you picked out is a real amp running fx send into mic pre

then waves gtr plugin with the pre section and use the dual cabs (you can mess with the mics and cab selections)

you'll need some post processing (like harmonic distortion, eq, and limiting)

allow me to correct a few things i said

by harmonic distortion i meant harmonic excitement, a plugin called izotope ozone 3 will do this in multiband format

and i also meant to say "with the pre section disabled" on the waves gtr plugin
