Behemoth

Dude, you should have let me know. I would have sold you a bunch of their stuff for cheap or even traded it. I used to have Sventevith: Storming the Baltic, as well as the two compilations comprising of all their black metal material. I also had THelema 6, Satanica, and Pandemonic Incantations.

If you like ZKC, you'll love Thelema 6 and Satanica. Satanica is their best work of their death metal days.

As far as the black metal stuff, it didn't appeal to me too much, but Sventevth was above average, and the EP And the Forests Dream Eternally (or something like that) is pretty good. But be prepared to spend a pretty penny on their older stuff.

There is a box set of their earlier work which is another reason why I asked. It has: And the Forests Dream Eternally, Sventevith, Grom, Pandemonic Incantations and a rarities album. It's only about $40 for those 5 so I'll probably get it, plus Satanica and Thelema 6.

From the Pagan Vastlands is considered among the best of their early works, but it can fetch anywhere from $15-$60

Ignore the COnjuration EP.

I'm ignoring all of their EPs except And the Forests Dream Eternally, they seem pointless and have about 3 songs. I'm also ignoring the Chaotica 2CD, it has stuff the box set covers. I think by getting the stuff mentioned in my other post, I'll have pretty much all the good stuff and I'll keep an eye out for a cheap copy of From the Pagan Vastlands.

ZKC bored me stupid so I sold it for about as much as I paid for it. There's my Behemoth story.

Here's my list of Behemoth-releases:

Behemoth: The Return Of The Northern Moon (blue vinyl) Pagan Records/Last Epitaph LEP-011 1994

Behemoth: Historica (ltd 801/2000, 5xLP/poster) Metal Mind 2002

- And The Forest Dream Eternally / Bewitching The Pomerania

- Sventevith - Storming Near The Baltic

- Grom

- Pandemonic Incantations

- Live In Toulouse/Rarities

In my opinion, these are all I need, with the exception of missing From The Pagan Vastelands CD, that I really want.
Please contact me if you have this on sell or trade. NEP-version is the 1st choice, but WR also accepted.

I don't care about newer material, but this old stuff is just...perfect.

Behemoth is so much overrated . ZKC and Demigod productions are terrible , no guitars , only drums and annoying screaming vocals with lame effects on Demigod . The only good Behemoth tracks (DM period) are : Antichristian Phenomenon and the first on Demigod (though the production is shit) and maybe the opener of Satanica . The rest is boring and a total MA ripoff

That was my biggest complaint with ZKC - totally unlistenable - they have the best bass player in the world, and you can't hear him for shit. However, the material is just storming, and SOOOOO much better live. Saw them supporting Deicide and they stole the show.

I think they kick a lot of ass, both their black metal and death metal work. "Sventevith" being their best black metal effort, and "Zos Kia Cultus" tying with "Satanica" as their best DM release. Haven't given "Demigod" a lot of spins yet, though, but that is soon to change. I didn't have any problems with the production on neither "Zos Kia Cultus" nor "Demigod", but then again I like triggered drums now and then.

Woot, one of my favourite bands:

  • From the Pagan Vastland - Awesome (cold) minimalist black metal - 9/10
  • Sventivith - Accousticly driven black metal with great vocals, but gets a bit dull torwards the end - 6,5/10
  • Grom - Midpaced black metal with lots of folk instruments and clear singing, really good - 7,5/10
  • Pandemonic Incantations - Their frist death/black effort and their weakest album, repetitive and dull - 5/10
  • Satanica - The best death metal album of theirs togehter with Th.6 (both with great lyrics) - 8/10
  • Thelema.6 - See above, technical and great with heaps of emotion - 8/10
  • Zos Kia Cultus - Technical and brutal, good, but lacks something extra that the two previous have - 7/10

In short, get them all :loco:

Yea , live they must be giving justice to their compositions . I'm mad about them because they have some good songs but the full-drums & low guitars ruin it all for me . I like a bit Thelema 6 because its more balanced , and you can hear the guitars , I also think it's the most subtile of all.

The effects on Nergal's vocals adds something to the first listens , then it's more annoying than anything else . I'd rate the albums as spaffe did with one or two points below for certain releases

I'm gonna go see these guys with Suffocation in February, I can only imagine how much that will slay. I hope they play As Above,So Below live, that would totally rule.

I think I pretty much completed my Behemoth collection last night, hopefully that stuff arrives quickly. ;) I just noticed that box set has Bewitching the Pomeria EP added onto And the Forests Dream Eternally, so there's another nice little bonus.
