Ya ya ya I know there's been a bit of Behringer bashing here in this forum, but I'm looking to get more inputs on my digi001 as cost-effectively as possible, if y'all remember. I've looked around the Web and found that this product actually works pretty well for the most part. Any of you have it?

i have two friends with studios who use these. they really like them. i personally wanted to step up a bit from that and went with a presonus digimax lt. the focusrite octapre le is also available now. you can get either one for under $600.00usd whish is still dirt cheap as far as eight good preamps go. id bet that the presonus or the focusrite are probably at least twice as good. you get what you pay for.

With behringer, you get what you paid for. It doesn't mean every behringer device is crap but don't expect too much.
I bought a mic-100 tube pre a few months ago. 50 euros... And it works ok with a good microphone, there's an audible hiss when you push the level and there's isn't much dynamic room.
I also have a V-amp 2 and welll... I guess you know... To my ears both pod and V-amp are toys. V-amp is just ok, hissy, not very solid, decent modeled sounds(as long as you don't expect real amps sounds, it's great and the same is true about the pod ihmo) and that's all.
But critical part such as pre/converter? I'm a bit sceptical. Don't expect pristine sound and or you'll be desapointed. I don't care about benchmarks, I only trust my ears...

I'm probably only going to use the ADA8000 for triggers and scratch guitar work (BTW is there a technical term for that?)...Are the extra 8 tracks going to put a lot of strain on my computer?

The ADA8000 will be fine for triggers and scratch work. I've used one when recording triggers for a modular synth and it worked perfectly.

Yesterday I compared recording a snare drum with the ADA8000 and then with my Yamaha 01V mixer. The Behringer is not bad, but it lacked some high end and didn't sound as clear as the snare sounded when it went through the 01V, unfortunatly I didn't have any other mic pre to compare with. I have only borrowed the ADA8000 but I will probably buy one anyway to use for triggers and such.. things that really don't need a high end pre, but I wouldn't use it on more important tracks.

Considering the fact that 01v is has the highest end pre's and converters...

Bob Lentini's studio burned down a while back, and by some miracle, his ADA8000s survived the fire, smoke, and being soaked by the fire department.... and they still work.

I think that says something about the build quality. :)

I downloaded the analog schematics of the ADA8000, just a simple tl074 buffer with some caps at the output and a standard micpre with standard (good) transistors and again the tl074 at the input with Alesis-used ad/da. Looks sonically like some sort of an Adat. You can make it sound slightly better by replacing the 074 with a HQopamp and the caps with black gate elco's, but it is such a simple design (and behaves ridiculously good for the money) that I wouldn't bother and just enjoy the damn thing.

People made music in the 80's with gigantic samplingmachines who are outrun by nowadays cellphones (if only Trevor Horn had a Nokia.. Imagine those ringtones..)

And understanding the art of eq'ing your music has a far greater impact on your mix then spending vasts amount of money on your ada-gear (when you can buy an ADA8000). You can get a hydratone for $149, great eq.

I plan to buy three ADA8000's, among with a dozen (or so) of these:

Should be pretty good for triggering too I guess.. ;)

(no seriously, I don't expect much for that money but it's so insane cheap I just wanna play with it to find out exactly how badly they try to ruin my artistic vision of how to make a proper sounding recording)

Everyone on the Digiforums seems to reccomend them if you dont have the cash for an Octopre or equivalent.

I was researching alternatives and found something called an SMPR8 which is essentially the same thing but you have to buy the optional ADAT output.
The company also makes a Analogue to ADAT convertor.
No idea on the quality though and seems to be no posts about them on the Digiforums.

The beringer are probably better anyways, which is really funny to say. :Spin:

What Mulder said is so true. I spent 5 grand on 8 channels of Mytek and I still think he is right. Fat mixes come from proper eq and compression. You guys like Testament The Gathering, right? Recorded on ADATs through a cheap console.

I'll bet the converters in the Berringer are just at good. Get what you can afford and get to work!
