Right now A.C.T are hands down my favourite.
Just caught them live too, blew Saga off stage (never thought I'd say that!!)

So who else?

Old favs
Genesis up to 1983
Supertramp until RH left
Saga
It Bites (soon to reform I hope!)
Split Enz / Crowded House
Wings (only at their best)

New favs
Spocks Beard (once I got past the name!)
The Flower Kings
Dishwalla
Salem Hill

Mainstream favs
Alanis Morrissette
Avril Lavigne (Alanis part 2..)
Semisonic

and I could go on and on....

Pretty varied tastes as I've not even mentioned
people like Ronnie Baker Brookes (Blues Rock)
Bond (Classical pop) Trilok Gurtu (World) and
a blast from the punk era, The Stranglers...
But now I have just mentioned them! :D

NP:Sylvan - Artificial Paradise (very good)

Emerald Rain
Balance of Power(Lance era)

Styx
Maximum Indifference

You lucky man, Sticks. I really want to see A.C.T live, and heard they are awesome on stage. Any stories?? I see you are an It Bites fan too. According to their website, they all are getting back together for some shows.

70s Prog
Camel
Be Bop Deluxe (I wish Bill Nelson would dust off those tunes and go out on tour
crap.gif
)
Kansas
Genesis
Hackett Solo
Floyd
Some songs from Yes, ELP, PFM, Focus, Nektar, UK, Gentle Giant, and all the other Prog Dinosaurs (Never will like King Crimson
yuck.gif
)

Newer Prog (Definitely my favorite with Enchant #1 in this category)
IQ
A.C.T
It Bites
Jadis
Iluvatar
Echolyn
Spock's Beard
Saga (Although some in late 70s)
Plenty others too like 12th Night, .....
Definitely like some Prog Metal like POS, & DT, Everon (P Metal Lite)

Pop Prog
Kevin Gilbert
Utopia/TR

Pop
Journey
Cheap Trick (Saw them on Monday nite, Good time)
Missing Persons
Survivor (older mostly)
Police
Rick Springfield (thats right, good early 80s tunes:))
Pat Benatar
Whole Slew of Early 80s Songs (Check out I love the 80s on VH1 --- hilarous shit

Even growing fond of some 80s glam bands from a nostaligic point of view

70s Rock (Although overplayed and sometimes boring)
Bruce
Who
Zep (of course)
Fleetwood Mac
Toto
Supertramp
Styx
Heart
Plenty of others too

I of course like the Beatles, but personally I think the Stones suck. Some other 60s bands are cool.

Not too fond of jazz and its derivatives, classical - ok, country -
yuck.gif
but the chicks are smoking, rap/hiphop - some of it is eyyight, most is weak, alternative - again some of it is ok, motown - like it, punk - some of it is good, alot is

Soundscape, I'm an Edu-only Angra fan! :)

yeah there are some people who only like the current Angra. I think there is some of the material on Rebirth which i liked, but to me Angra will never be like the Angra I fell in love with. I am not very much a fan of Powermetal and Edu's voice is not bad, but it's not Andre to me. I dunno, many bands have had splitups and change in singers I went onto like as much if not more: Marillion, Genesis, Fates Warning, Spocks Beard coming up, however in this case their sound seems to be more dramatic of a difference toward speed and powermetal. But who knows, maybe Angra will have more progressive elements to their sound in the future. I love Shaman though, very much capturing what I enjoyed about Holy Land.

Some people hate these types of threads, but these kinds of threads are how I find new music.

Some of my favorites:

Rush (THE greatest band on Earth)
Dream Theater
Black Sabbath (All iterations)
Iron Maiden
Camel
The Cranberries
Bruce Dickenson (Chemical Wedding is one of my all time favorite of my collection)
Spock's Beard
Hootie and the Blowfish (Good rock'n'roll plain and simple)
Type O Negative
Tonic
Transatlantic

A new favorite:

Evanescence

In rough give or take order depending on my mood:

Pink Floyd
Spock's Beard
Dream Theater
Transatlantic
Kevin Gilbert (Anyone else catch NDV's ProgWest shindig last year? Sweet Jesus, that was incredible!)
Genesis (I think the Home by the Sea series was the last really good stuff they've done)
Sarah McLaughlan (except Surfacing)
Tears for Fears

Other bands who have specific cd's I really like:

Queensryche (Mindcrime), Fates Warning (Disconnected), Liquid Tension Experiment (2...such an amazing disk!), Porcupine Tree (In Absentia), Creed (My Own Prison).

Steve Hackett solo!

I just got his new CD in the mail today. It arrived autographed (my second autographed Hackett CD). It's a good CD imo, not his greatest, but good nonetheless. Also has some anti-war comments in the liner notes; as far as I know this is the first time he's been vocal on a political issue.
Long-time Hackett fans will like this, but if you're not used to his styles you probably won't like this (Steve Hackett is the type of person that you have to get used to; best to start with his early stuff and work your way up).

Besides Enchant, here are some of the bands I dig:

Marillion (like if you couldn't tell from my handle) add Fish as well
Porcupine Tree (Wilson is a genius)
Opeth (one of the very few I like in this genre)
Dream Theater (nuff said)
Adagio (fairly new commers but Stephan and the boys can sure play)
Symphony X (see Dream Theater)
Rainbow (classic Blackmore and Dio)
Black Sabbath (the fathers of heavy metal)
Queensryche (although I start to drop off around Empire you have to admire what they did for this scene)
Rush (professional masters)
Nightwish (Operatic metal at its best)
Lacuna Coil (Italy's finest import in a long time)
Genesis (Gabriel Era of course)
Deep Purple (see Rainbow kind of)
Jethro Tull (one of the bands I have seen over 10 times)
Pink Floyd
Gentle Giant
Kevin Gilbert
Ozric Tentacles
Fates Warning
OSI
ChromaKey
Warlord (Bill Tsamis and Mark Zonder)
MSG (Schenker solo)
Echolyn
Anekdoten (incredible band from Sweden)
UK (Holdsworth)

Evergrey
The Gathering
Freak Kitchen
Steve Vai
Threshold
Spock's Beard
Iron Maiden
Dredg
The Tea Party
Thought Industry
IQ
Big Wreck
Kansas
Devin Townsend
Kamelot
In Flames
Magnitude 9
Children Of Bodom
Pain of Salvation
Stratovarius (old stuff)
Angra
Yngwie Malmsteen (ok so not really into him anymore but he did some great stuff for a lot of the new breed neo-classical guitar players)
UFO (Schenker)
Scorpions (Mostly with Uli Jon Roth)
Nightingale (most Dan Swano stuff)
Therion (another one of the few in this genre that I like)

Hodge Podge:
Tori Amos, Ziroq, Tapping the Vein, Jorn Lande, Conception, Time Requiem, Evanescence, Kate Bush, Bjork, Michael Hedges, Rusty Cooley, Bernd Steidl, Everon, Lemur Voice, Falconer, Shawn Lane, Michael Manring, Savatage, Vinnie Moore, Paco De Lucia....shit I better stop! :)

They are one of my favorites. "The Global Village" is a perfect album. I REALLY wish they would get back together!

I've heard some Braindance... "From Whence it Came" is mind-blowing.
