Best band Ever at Any Prog Power?

I'm a GR fan, and I thought it was a *terrible* choice to play Heavy Metal Universe.

I've only heard the song a couple times because it always gets the skip-button treatment whenever I play that CD. If they wanted to play a pop song from Power Plant, then they should have played Send Me A Sign. HMU is just terrible.

I agree... to a point. If they'd just played it and moved on, then it's just a song you didn't like, no biggee, happens every set.

To make it the centerpiece song and draw it oooouutttt... now that hurt.

Edguy were definitely incredible. The problem (if you even want to call it a problem) with last years festival is that Glenn had 5 bands there that were headliners; Angra, Blind Guardian, Gamma Ray, Edguy, and Pain of Salvation. And that is exactly why last years festival could never be topped. Some of those bands needed to be saved!!! Think about it, Kamelot headlined the previous year (and I love them), but any of the five above mentioned bands would have been bigger names than Kamelot. So that tells you where this festival went from 2.0 to 3.0. Hey, I'm not complaining since I had the time of my life last year; I'm simply making a point.

Send me a Sign was to be played before I WANT OUT at the end of the show. It was scrapped because of time. I am not shooting from the hip, I saw the setlist.

My vote would have to go to Threshold. :) One day down the road I'd love to see them headline PP. An hour was way too short. :)

After that would be Symphony X and Angra.

Now there's a surprise. ;)

My top 3 would have to be...

1. Evergrey
2. Balance of Power / Blind Guardian (tie)
3. Silent Force / Threshold (tie)

Hey now. :p

It's really not fair to the older PP I & II bands since I wasn't there and haven't seen any of them live except Symphony X. So I had to go on which band I simply like the best, as well as could bring it live (and then some). Edguy is one that would be way up there as far as live performance (incredible), but on cd I don't care for them as much as some of the others. I like them a lot, but they don't do it for me like an Angra or SX. Blind Guardian's also way up there, they were great. :)

I thought Blind Guardian were much better on their own tour. More relaxed, and much less nervous tension about catching the last flight out of town perhaps?

While I thought they were pretty good at PP3, I'll agree that they were better during the following tour. I caught them twice in Springfield, VA the weekend after ProgPower, and they were definitely more relaxed. I think Hansi might have been having vocal issues at PP3, too, because he sounded a little better at the other shows.

@ProgMetalFan - you don't like BG? I know you hate the Germanic "cookie cutter" power metal bands, but surely BG wouldn't fall into that category? On the contrary, they're rather unique are they not...?

:) Are you going to catch Symphony X in Detroit in a couple weeks? It would be nice to meet a fellow female metal head who lives in the same state, though it is the other side of the state!
