Well I think it's time I get a real amp as I'm starting to gig and need to stop relying on friends.

Problem being im poor as hell, what would you recommend?
I have a digitech death metal pedal i could always use aswell (but am willing to invest in a HM-2 or metal zone).

I don't a have a buget of yet but being in the UK a second hand 5150/6505 is still to much.

I play melodeath/brutal death metal/tech death, so I am a huge In flames/Necrophagist/Cannibal corpse/suffocation/At the gates and especially Behemoth fan, so anything that could bring me close to that would be awesome.

cheers

If a used 5150/6505 is too much then I'm not sure you'll be able to find too many heads that'll sound that good in comparison, for the money you're willing to spend.

I guess you could look around for a used Marshall head of some sort - being in the UK might make them cheaper.

Also check out used peavey XXL heads. They're solid state but I've heard they are terrific and can be found very cheap if you look around.

EDIT: By the way, stay the HELL away from a metalzone, or at least using one for your primary distortion. If you're using one as a boost infront of a tube head it can give great results, but using it for your main sound is a big, terrible mistake.

cheers, I almost forgot about the XXL, and yes i was meaning as a boost

as a main distortion i cant think of much worse

Only use the metalzone live if you're still living in the 90's and are from sweden, neither of which apply to you, so yet again another +1 for staying away from the metalzone.

I dunno if metal jonesy's sold his krank rev jr yet, but if he's still got it, it was fairly affordable, great sounding little amp too
and yeah the Peavey XXL's are pretty sick sounding too
laney GH50 maybe?

does anyone know anything much about the Randall G3 RH150? I know its solid state but nothing apart form that, can it get any decent tones, even just for live use and i could use line6 crap for recordings

they those solid state jobbies? ive heard some good sounds from them actually.

ah ok I'll bare all that in mind

oh and i would buy a bugera, definitly but there sorta hard to find on ebay, especially seconed hand, i think ill just save up more i guess and see how much i have by october time when i should be gigging the most

cheers guys anyway

If you're going to save more you should really aim for a second hand 5150/6505. They're very reliable and provide a great quality sound.

not too sure if the bugeras are any more reliable nowadays, do some research before you buy one of those
one of the boys from orpheus has one, ask him for details.
