Just looking to expand my collection of music somewhat. I'm a fan of Jeremy Soule's work for Total Annihilation, as well as the Elder Scrolls games in this category. If there are any more suggestions you can throw my way based off that, whether for film, tv, game or whatever medium, it would be appreciated.

Ok,here are some movie soundtrack suggestions on that direction..

Tyler Bates: Watchmen,300
Hans Zimmer: The DaVinci Code,The Dark Knight,The Gladiator
Also check the "Equilibrium" soundtrack,i don't remember the composer right now...

Cheers!

+1 on Hanz Zimmer's work for "The Dark Knight" and "The DaVinci Code", need to listen to the "Watchmen" and "300" soundtracks
again, loving both movies, so there's a good chance that I dig the soundtracks, too ;)
Not sure if you count this as a classical soundtrack (not sure if you meant music wise or soundtrack and not songs from bands
that are played in the movie) but Trent Raznor&Atticus Ross just killed it on the soundtrack for "The Social Network" imho.

Nothing new, but John Williams wrote some of the best stuff on earth in my opinion (huge Star Wars fan) and the Jurassic Park
soundtrack is brilliant.

Anything by Nobuo Uematsu, the Tour de Japon stuff that mixes all the different FF games is great.

All of the Lord of the Rings OSTs are huge in my playlist. I also like the last few Harry Potter OSTs from Nicholas Hooper and Alexandre Desplat.

Lord of the Rings >> most other (classical) soundtracks
Although if you really want all pieces of music from the films you'll need to buy the "complete recordings" with about 60 tracks for each film - but they're about 50€/film over here.
The normal soundtrack has about 19 tracks per movie.

All of the Lord of the Rings OSTs are huge in my playlist.

These are always getting play at my household - my wife is a huge "Lord of the Rings" freak. For my money I always go back to the original "Star Wars" soundtrack - I still have the original double vinyl version I bought some 30+ years ago tucked away that I pull out every now and again.

+1 to Hans Zimmer. The Ring has an awesome classical ost.

Zimmer is a sure bet, great listening resource for production inspiration. Alexandre Desplat is also one of my favourite contemporary composers at the moment, his work in The King's Speech and the two final Harry Potter movies is great.

Zimmer is definitely the first that comes to mind when I think of 'contemporary' classical. Big fan of his work in The Last Samurai.

Call me old fashioned but I still believe John Williams, Alan Silvestri, James Horner, Jerry Goldsmith and Basil Poledouris best scores can't be beat.

Poledouris is the "epic man" when it comes to the horn sections. Ron Goodwin's "where eagles dare" soundtrack is a must of you like military soundtracks ( killer film too)

Then again, nobody can top this
