Screaming for Vengeance and Painkiller, but I'm basing this on the Metal Works '73-'93 compilation, which is the only Priest I own so far.

I'm going to go ahead and order the Priest albums I own from best to worst

Stained Class/Screaming for Vengenace
Sad Wings of Destiny
Painkiller
Hell Bent for Leather
Defenders of the Faith
British Steel
Sin After Sin

Painkiller and Stained Class definently. Though, I also really like Turbo, Sad Wings of Destiny, Defenders of the Faith, and Sin After Sin.

I, sadly, do not own Rocka Rolla or (perhaps less sadly) either of the Ripper albums, so I have to make my decision without having heard much from either of those. I also haven't been able to find my copy of Stained Class for like two and a half years, so... Luckily I have the Metalogy so it's not all bad. ANYWAY...

I picked Sad Wings of Destiny and Hellbent For Leather. I used to really love 80's (and onward) Priest material, but I simply don't enjoy it these days nearly as much as I used to. 70's Priest is far superior (this is actually a scientific fact). I just feel that they were a lot more creative and different back then.

By the way, anyone know when the new album is supposed to come out? I really don't know what to expect.

I've only heard Painkiller so far, and I found that to be thoroughly mediocre aside from "Leather Rebel". I'm sure their earlier stuff must be better, so I'm reserving judgment on them until I've heard the '70s albums.

Painkiller is Judas Priest jumping on a bandwagon; it's not even remotely representative of their creative capacity. Given your tendencies, I highly recommend you check out their first 4 albums.

It's actually a pretty wicked album, and it's better that priest re-work themselves then keep making same sound albums. Just look at the differences in all thier albums.

There the one band I don't mind when it comes to changing sound (usually)
