From the list given: Shrek

although I have yet to see LoTR or Harry Potter - I usually wait until movies are released on DVD to see them, as I'm not a big theatre goer [I spent to much $$ on my home theatre]

Requiem for a Dream was 2000, not 2001.

BUT, they did forget Memento and Mulholland Drive. Those were my favorites of the year. Also, Vanilla Sky. So, none of the above.

And you pull off the amazing feat of saying pretty much exactly what I was going to say before I said it, this time on Requiem for a Dream. You're pretty good at that...

I enjoyed Vanilla Sky, but I have yet to see A Beautiful Mind and Mulholland Drive, and I don't think I'm even familiar with Momento - so I'm going to hold back on a verdict.

haven't seen lotr yet (i'm poor!!) but shrek rocked!! :)

was really excited about the final fantasy movie, and when i saw it i was in absolute awe for about half an hour, just amazed at the quality of the picture... surprising that it was all done by computer. by the time the initial awe wore off and i started paying attention to the actual movie and plot, i was totally disappointed. my bf at the time wrote a review, and it's exactly how i felt about it......

I thought AI was the single worst movie of the year and in my top 5 all time losers (up there with other classics like I know What You Did Last Summer, Weekend at Bernie's II, Revenge of the Nerds 4, and anything with Sylvester Stallone). I hated it. I thought the first 40 minutes were amazing-a sci-fi psychological drama. then it goes horribly awry as it spins into a fairy tale. My bro and I walked out after two hours, as did half the theater- I don't think they were intending for people to laugh during the emotional scenes. Runner up for worst movie was Pearl Harbor

alright everyone have their own opinions and , of course , i respect that. some have no respect for
opinions of others , and that its their problem.
at my opinion (ok ?) shrek was an ridiculus movie
and totally lack of any sence...pure waste of time. afterwards , final fantasy : 1st this is a japanese movie , 2nd there is no actors and 3rd this is fantasist cinema. so those who don't like fantasist cinema shouldent even talk about it.
and since there is no big americans actors AND
that is an animation movie , so people tend to dislike this or totally ignore it. yes the traduction is horrible and sometimes even improvised...because its always hard to tracduce japanese to english or french. but still this movie have sence , complex story and nice characters ! and most of all the magic of the
games , the final fantasy touch ! so still its one
of my favorite movie along with the matrix (damn
it can't be in the list :p , of course) i like
both fantasy and science fiction. and even better a mix of the 2.

No wonder you didn't like it.

For me, the first 40 minutes was just a scene setter, the real movie started after that, and the last half hour or so i was glued to the screen like i was in a trance, the final scene leaving me in tears  (yes , i admit it!) .

Seriously, what didn't it have? action, suspence, great acting (that kid is amazing, how old is he?) , great imaginative story-line.

Its amazing how spielberg can do such an incredibly boring and lame movie (Jurassic Park 3) and then a movie so original and emotional in the same year.

I hate you too. :p

Sorry I just don't find his stories that interesting... 1000+ pages and PLENTY of time wasted on describing how some guys destroy a ring that could trigger the end of the world.. ok I know it's more than that.. but.. whatever.. I still don't like this kind of books.. I only "waste" my time reading when I know I'll get something out of it.. I don't read too much anyway.. nothing personal :)
