I think A Sun that never sets is the best- it is a bit more emotional- if neurosis can be emotional- yet I think I am voting for it because of the DVD- which is a must have- watching and listening to Neurosis. I love the experimentation and those bag pipes on Times of Grace- and the aggression of Through Silver into blood. Tribes of Neurot- the side project is mindblowing as well.

In my worthless opinion, I think Neurosis is one of the very very best bands in metal- or heavy music- and they do not get the attention they deserve. They certaintly are one of the few bands that evolves every record, and makes use of visuals, and even soundscapes and different instruments.

They probably never going to get any media exposure since they're too morbidly depressing. Really good band though eh. Haven't got any of their albums yet.

I voted for Times Of Grace, because there are many of my favourite songs on it: Under the surface, Away, Times of grace, The doorway.

The ASTNS DVD is great indeed. Unfortunately I don't have a DVD player, so I've been able to watch it only once (a friend of mine has one of these video projectors and we watched it there...fucking great!).

Murai, i am going to have to agree with you- but I wouldnt call them depressing, I find them to be caustic, abrasive, and at times bludgeoning. Still I dont know of many bands that are quite so postmodern, and truly progressive, as Neurosis- Neurosis is just too much for the music scene- they are too damn good- too abrasive and inventive- I can only hope they are re-discovered years from now by music lovers- it would be such a shame if they were forgotten.

For all the bands on Ultimate Metal- I know of very few that have a fraction of the imagination, guts, and talent, that Neurosis does.

Through Silver In Blood is my favorite..that opening drum beat just absorbs my attention into the entire album..everything they've done is great though. A superb band indeed.

I really like this band. To have to pick a sole favourite album is a daunting task. I'd have to go with Souls At Zero. Maybe it's because that album is the first album I heard of theirs, I dunno. But it is so fucking kool. I'm yet to hear the albums before this, but I have been led to believe Souls AT Zero was their first album taking them away from their Hardcore roots. And you can hear the seperation taking place on this album if that is the case. A dark, crushingly absorbing album. 9/10

anyone know when the second Official Bootleg CD will be available?

I think it's out. It's called "Live in Lyons" I believe. Is that what you're talking about?

After rediscovering Neurosis, I'd have to say Through Silver in Blood and Times of Grace are my favorites. Out of those two, 'm going with Through Silver in Blood, due to the awesome title track. Next week, it will probably be Times of Grace, though.

oh ok. Sorry, misread your question. Is "Live in Lyons" worth getting? I'm always skeptical towards live albums.

Im going with A Sun That Never Sets or Enemy of The Sun. While I love everything theyve released to date, I find myself spinning those two records the most.

Sat there and pondered for a while. Settled on Through Silver in Blood. That's the one that really floored me when I heard it. I'd heard a couple others, names Given to the Rising and Enemy of the Sun, but that one really blew the doors open for me.

Because I enjoy ranking shit:

1. Through Silver in Blood
2. Enemy of the Sun
3. Times of Grace
4. Given to the Rising
5. Souls at Zero
6. Neurosis & Jarboe
7. The Sun that Never Sets
8. Eye of Every Storm

Don't really give a fuck about the first two albums.

TSiB is the best because it is so massive, diverse and relentlessly dark. A perfect album.
