I voted for Live and Dangerous. That album is great and I saw them that year at the Pinkpop festival. Pretty amazing gig!

After that I like 'Chinatown' and 'Thunder and Lighting' the best. John Sykes rules in my book! :headbang:

Even if kind of ludicrous for me to pick just one best TL album I went for "Jailbreak" for two main reasons:

1) was my first Lizzy album
2) it has 'Emerald' the BESTsong ever by them and one of the best songs ever in rock history.

BTW you skip "Life/Live" a great album and the farewell of the band. Although as for live albums my favorite is "BBC Radio One Live In Concert"

God dam
Hmmm... I´m not sure if it´s the same gig.
It´s Live and Dangerous at rainbow.
Yes I have the gig on my computer.
But I could send it to you if you want it.

Voted for T & L myself. Can't go wrong w/John Sykes!
I like almost everything they've done.
I also like the Life double live with appearances from Garry Moore, Sykes, Gorham, & Robertson.....

J-Dubya - Who still needs to get that GM Tribute to TL. It rocks SO hard!

Jailbreak. Just a totally classic album straight through.
Behind that is Thunder And Lightning (The Holy War = One of the best songs EVAR!)

My first contact with TL was actually the Life/Live live album, but voting for live albums is like cheating :D

I'd go for Black Rose then, the Gary Moore / Scott Gorham duo was unbelievable. But Jailbreak, Bad Reputation and Thunder and Lightening are just as good...

I had to go with Thunder and Lightning. It just sticks with me. I have a soft spot for live stuff and Live and Dangerous would be my first, kneejerk pick. But being honest with myself made me select T&L. Yes, Sykes does rule.

I voted for 'Black Rose', as well. Though, picking a fave Lizzy album is not an easy, or fair, thing to have to do. Even though I chose an album with Gary Moore on it, one of my all time favorite guitar players, the best & ultimate Thin Lizzy line up is and will always be, imo:

Philip Lynott - Bass, vocals
Scott Gorham - Guitars
Brian Robertson - Guitars
Brian Downey - Drums

Fine answers everywhere. After the initial post I was moved to finally sit down and watch the "Gary Moore & Friends - One Night in Dublin: a Tribute to Phil Lynnot" and most definitively the legacy is so strong still kick ass all these years afterwards.

Sadly Moore left Sykes and White out of the call and none of the last three albums are represented.

In the (too small for my taste) interviews Gorham said that he was burned out by the time of "Renegade" and he went to quit the band. Phil talked him into one more album and a worldwide farewell tour, and thus "Thunder & Lightning" ans well as "Life/Live" came out.

True rockers, true musicians, eternal stars.

You are right, Black Rose is their best studio album. I kinda overlooked that. Don't ask me how I did that! :)

Hey Paddy whats up?

Although Dedication is my favorite Thin Lizzy cd , the best studio album by far is The Black Rose. Great tunes like Got to give it up, Get out of here, S&M, Do anything you want, and of course The Black Rose. I love the guitar work in that song , it still blows me away to this day.

All their releases are pretty solid and consistent within the framework of the slab but as a whole I have "Chinatown", "Jailbreak" and "Renegade" above "Black Rose".

Shamefully, I couldnt say but I've always loved Sodoms cover of Cold Sweat, which album is that one on? I might have to hunt it down one day...
