Bill Bailey is a British comedy actor, stand up comedian and musicician. I'm a big fan, I own two of his live DVD's, Spaced (which he appeared in), and Black Books (in which he was a central character) and a selection of his music via download.

If you're totally unfamiliar here is a link to some of his work.

He is the only comedian known to me to have "perfect pitch", is an accompolished, guitarist, bassist, pianist and dabbles in the kazoo, theremin and bongos.

Currently, he appears in the punk band BeerGut 100, and previously in a band called Cosmic Jam. In early 2005 the and fellow comedian Kevin Eldon, alongside two other friends, performed a Kraftwerk themed version of "The Hokey Kokey" (Das Hokey Kokey) to mark the fianl show of Bill's "Part Troll" tour.

Discuss.

N.B. Bare in mind he is a musician.

He is definately one of my favs. I love the way he incorporates music in his show, from folk to taking the piss out of slayer (he does chemical warfare on one of his dvds) - although i think he is secretly a fan of some of their work.

Black books is hilarious and he was the only reaosn i used to watch never mind the buzzcocks. You ever see him on IQ? Side-splitting. he actually did a series on beeb2 years ago, it never repeated but it was outrageously funny.

I dig BB. He's humour is very inventive and surreal. I especially like his medievil porn music, cant remember what he called it.

I reckon he likes Slayer yea. I think that's on Part Troll, but there's a longer version on the Cosmic Jam DVD, alongside Insect Nation, total genius.

I believe he just called it medieval porn music.

"I've come to fix the 'arpsichord."

Personally I'd love to see the guy do a proper full lenght solo album, he's got one which is just bits and bobs from different shows, I nearly bought it last year from Scotch Corner service station.

I saw his Part Troll preformance a long time ago and it was one of the funniest stand-up acts I had seen then. I love the way he brings music into his preformances. Oh, that song about the duck which was shredded in a pancake is probably one of the funniest songs I've heard.

Bill Bailey is just one of those people who is naturally funny. The man is just hilarious, it's like a gift. Add to that an immense wit, and you have quite probably the strongest comedian Britain has seen for years. To pair him with Dylan Moran (possibly my other favourite) in Black Books was nothing short of side-splitting.

I recently watched Dylan Moran's Monster and it literally had me in tears more than once. Those men are just gifted. Especially Bailey I guess since apart from being ridiculously funny he also is a very good musician.

really don't find this guy funny. i don't find much modern comedy funny, but then - i dont really watch TV unless im visiting my parents. the last thing i remember making me laugh out loud at the TV was Blackadder.

as far as his music goes, i dont know much but he sounds like he has some sort of plan/idea where he's going.

i saw bill a few weeks ago in london, he was doing some of his new material for his new show which is apparantly starting at the end of the year. It was incredible! If you want an good example of bill bailey being naturally funny search for "bailey top gear" on youtube.

If you guys like random comedy then you might want to check out a guy called Ross Noble, i find him quite funny but i think he is a bit too odd for alot of people.

I saw Ross Noble live a few months ago. Also a genius.

Bill Bailey is absolutely brilliant. Balck Books is one of my all time favourite shows, I missed an opportunity to see Dylan Moran live and kicked myself.

By the far the most intelligent thing I have ever seen you post Wrath.
Rick Gervais is the man :kickass:
I love that crazy dance he does. (in my avatar)

Gervais is limited and getting boring fast IMO. Everything he does, i see Brent. In fact i think HE IS Brent, in many ways and he will not be able to get out of that rut. I have almost the same problem with Steve Coogan in that everything he does reminds me of Alan Partridge (Im not saying that Partridge was bad btw). However, Coogan has infinately more talent than Gervais.

coogan & gervais are both unfunny losers

Coogan's character Alan Partridge was a huge success and has a cult following. Gervais is also similar. Hardly losers as you put it, especially when one considers just how much money these guys are worth today.

His new character (Coogan's) Saxondale, an old rock roadie turned pest control officer, with a temper problem, isn't worth watching though. More miss than hit in most episodes ive seen (in fact, ive given up with it). Coogan had no say in the creation of the script, which may explain part of the reason it is so poor.

Unless one actually lives in the UK, the chances of you understanding the humour that comes from Brit comedians is extremely low. Im guessing you're American? If you are from the UK, then i would assume its a generational thing, everyone in my age group finds Coogan hilarious for the most part (sans Saxondale). He is a fine comedic actor of modern times.
