I've been checking the black mesa source site since 2005, every month! For fans like me, this is very exciting. I guess this new remake can be good for guys who didn't play the original one and are looking for modern graphics. Half Life 1 is NOT the typical alien/zombie story, it has it's own vibe, that's why it became famous when valve released it.

haha, i'm one of the guys that has been waiting since this mod was announced as well. totally shit myself when I saw a release date.

That's really good news but I'll reserve my excitement until I've played it or seen some reviews. It is a fan project after all, so I don't have high expectations.

I'm a big fan of half life 2 and half life episodes 1 & 2 but I haven't played the original. I tried once but I couldn't get over the outdated graphics. I hope this remake lives up to its hype.

FYI, parts of the team consists of highly respected game developers.
I know about half the team and they're all really talented at what they do.

I think it will be amazing(I know it will be..), but in the end its just another version of half-life.

yeah I saw that, it takes a while to download at fast speed but slows down at random points

You don't need HL2, you only need to download ''Source SDK base 2007''

You can get it in steam :

2)tools
3)scroll down to Source SDK base 2007
4)double click on it to download

Yup, don't need hl2 on your pc, and the source SDK base is free.

It's been approved on Steam greenlight, so they will release it on steam too!

really nice remake, definitely worth the play, I have not played too much but everything I've played is great and fun, except that everyone's voice is dr kliner haha
