Black Mesa Source finally?

Just started playing this, what an awesome remake. I heard some things were purposely different from the original HL. I am up to the part where you find the security guard with the gun and I haven't found the crowbar yet. Is this purposely this way in the remake?

I also started playing and it's definitely more enjoyable than the original. Is it just me, though, or it's way more difficult than HL2? I'm no expert on FPS games but I was able to get through HL2 on the normal setting without any major problems. Black mesa on the other hand it's more frustrating. It seems that enemies can take way more bullets before they die. Right now I'm in the part where you just reach the surface (which I suppose could be considered the first "big boss"?) and I keep dying over and over.
I think the game designers in HL2 did a better job regulating the difficulty so that the game is difficult enough to be enjoyable and not cut the flow of the game.

I havent found it either, I have to let the security gaurd do all the shooting..

What difficulty are you set on?

Also, throw the flares at the scientists until you get the crowbar.

Try putting it on easy then I guess.

But part of the reasoning behind making the enemy take more shots, is to bring in the environment (blowing things up etc.).

It gets difficult when there are many soldiers in one room. I play in hard mode, I don't think it's that hard but I get killed a lot in parts with too many enemies, like in the original. I think that in the original game you get the crowbar very early in comparison to this remake, other change I've noticed is the bullsquid spit is scattered, also right clicking the magnum is a mini zoom mode, stained weapons, etc. I think it's cool to have this little changes that don't kill the gameplay. My only complain would be the performance...my pc can run games with way more graphical detail even in 1080p and in this game I have to play in 720p even with little stuttering at some parts.

Idk, I was getting an action framerate around 150 with resting framerate of around 300, according to Fraps, with max all graphics settings.

I can't set it on easy man, it's a matter of pride ;).

Yeah, I get the environment thing, it was similar on HL2, but the problem is mostly with human soldiers. It's annoying that I almost have to empty a whole clip before they die.

Anyway, I'm enjoying the game so far despite that. It really feels like HL2 but without the character interaction and story development which I kinda miss.

Same here I just picked normal, I actually thought it was just a tad harder but not too much. The vortigaunts shoot faster in BM than in the original and it's tough to dodge their shots.

Just finished it. Really enjoyed it. I still prefer the original by far but I still like how the developers kept the classic feel and also introduced some of their personal touch to some levels.

I also really enjoyed murdering those scientists:devil:

please can you tell me a valid link to download this game!!! :( I tried the ones on their page with no avail... it always failed to download a correct file

The torrent worked perfectly for me.

Don't try to unzip manually, just run the setup and it will do everything automatically.

Played it for 3 hours today. A little different but overall it's killer. Definitely digging this.

Thanks for posting this as i gave up on it a while ago. :Spin:
