Black Metal and Hipsters

the most offensive thing to me is they use fucking arial black on the cover

you don't ever use arial in print. not now, not ever, not ever ever ever

in fact i think someone who at least has the brain capacity and balls to say something like "The meaning of black metal has something to do with a longing for ecstatic annihilation, a perfect void" (which rings fairly true to me) is a more interesting person than 99% of everyone in every conventional black metal band. black metal is shit now, and liturgy is not black metal but at least they're doing something slightly uncommon and meaningful (to themselves at least)

EDIT: that said. i listened to this:

http://vimeo.com/23060738

and it SUUUUCKS. it's so bad.

I really don't think these guys are the least bit interested in BM in the traditional sense. the entire video reeks of Brooklyn ... might be original looking to someone not from these parts. But American Apparel V-necks and girlish soft poses are not metal.

I kind of want to hear this now*

*though everything I've heard by them previously was shit

^pretentious, btw

This cover makes the aforementioned ribbed track sound like something off of Bergtatt. This is without a doubt, the worst piece of "music" I've heard. This is Hell!

Musical style

Their musical style is considered avant-garde metal due to their use of frequent genre changes within songs, including jazz, disco, swing, easy listening, grindcore and electronica, but primarily metalcore. Their music is generally described as a "spastic blending of genres" [9] and is known for having melodic, "lounged-out" interludes in the middle of their songs.[10] Influences for their musical style have come from a wide variety of bands including The Dillinger Escape Plan, Radiohead and Björk.

During May of 2011, Steven Bradley confirmed that the band would have a dramatic shift into playing black metal.[8]
“ We were sick of getting lumped in with ‘scene’ and ‘whatever-core’ bands, so we decided to embrace our roots and just go straight black metal on the new album. I'd say 90% of the new record is straight-up black metal ”

the comments section is claiming this is a song by a band called Chthonic

the real shit is probably even further from black metal
